My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

PANDI – 19 weeks old, 40 pounds. Female Great Pyrenees mix (sire was 100% pyr, and dam was 50% pyr/50% akita). White, fluffy coat with a black eye mask and ears.
Pandi is a wonderful, sweet, soft and sensitive girl. She LOVES human interactions. She loves gentle hugs, pets, scritches, and combing. She is a curious puppy and loves to sniff and explore. She is very aware of her surroundings and appears to think about each new thing before accepting it into her world. For example, when on a recent walk where there was a creek on the property, she carefully inspected it and slowly dipped her paws in at first and then immediately her whole body. So, we now know she loves water!
Pandi is quite the problem-solver too. If she wants something badly enough, she will figure out a way to get it. When she wanted to explore the garden, which was surrounded by a lightweight, temporary fence. She couldn’t get through the fence, so she jumped on it until she took it down. Then she happily showed her sisters how to enter the garden for their digging pleasure! It’s hard to get mad at her when she cocks her head over and joyfully regards you through her Panda Bear mask!
Pandi has been well socialized to men, women, children, different races, dogs of different sizes/ages/colors, public and private venues, storms, fireworks, cars, motorcycles, bikes, scooters, beards, hats, umbrellas, loud household noises and even drones! Pandi hasn’t shown any fearfulness. She does like things her way though, and, as a puppy, can dig her paws in trying to get her way. It’s quite endearing.
Pandi attended a training academy at Peaceable Paws where she learned sit, down, leave it, trade, and recall. She has also made great strides walking politely on a leash. We learned that her favorite training treats are dehydrated beef liver, dehydrated goat cheese, chicken, meatballs, and cheddar crackers. We also learned that Pandi gets pretty lazy when it’s hot out and will choose a shady spot – or air conditioning – over just about anything else going on.
Pandi does well with and enjoys the companionship of other dogs. She engages in play with them and just like everything else, greets new dogs with gentle curiosity. She has been a bit pushy with her sister, Murphie, but not the other dogs in her foster home. Part of this pushiness includes her finding certain things highly valuable – like food, treats, and certain spaces – and she will guard these things from Murphie. So far, it’s just been from Murphie, not other dogs and not all the time. She easily and happily relinquishes all things to her people.
Pandi is a puppy and will need ongoing training and puppy socialization classes. If you live near Fairplay, MD, you can take advantage of a free Basic Good Manner’s class at Peaceable Paws. Or we can recommend good trainers wherever you live.
Pandi would not be suitable as a livestock guarding dog. Pandi’s ideal home is a single-family home with a physical fence. Pandi does well with other dogs. She is fascinated by cats’ movements and will chase, but hasn’t done harm – if you have cats, they should be dog savvy. Pandi has done well interacting with children. If there are children in the home, we recommend they be 8 or older.
This breed is not for everyone. Previous dog experience is preferred, but at a minimum, please do some research on Great Pyrenees before you apply.
The adoption fee is $450 and includes all puppy shots and her spay.
