Blitz might be a little shy when you first meet him, but once he`s your buddy you’re in for life! Blitz loves his squeaky toys, stuffed animals, and cheese. Blitz has been described by his friends as delightfully quirky, smart, and loyal. He walks nicely on a leash and will protect you against those pesky squirrels. He adores sprinklers, would make a good adventure buddy, and is extremely grateful for new life experiences. He is extremely polite when asking for snacks, will check in frequently on his walks or stick by your side, and hops up willingly and rides quietly in the car. Blitz enjoys leaning in for affection, and has previously lived with a female dog and playful cat. Blitz would benefit from a low to medium traffic home and will go home with goodies and the support of his volunteer advocates at Orange Dot Crew. Blitz can also receive free training thanks to Friends of Austin Animal Center.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

Go meet their pets

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00am to 7:00pm. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.
