My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Penelope!
Penelope is an 8-month-old female German Shepherd; she came in as a case of owner neglect and is only 40 lbs. She is settling in nicely in her foster home with two male GSD foster brothers and a Maine coon cat. She has been around young kids, a 4-year-old and a 10 year and really enjoyed them. She tends to prefer human females but warms up to men quickly.
She is very smart and knows “sit” and “watch me”. We are working on “down, stay and leave it”.
She is both food and praise motivated. She has some tendencies to counter surf but because she’s so tiny she hasn’t been able to get anything off the tabletop.
She walks nicely on a leash. She is a bit timid when walking alone with her foster mom but gains a lot of confidence when walking with other dogs. Dog intros are fairly easy. She barks and whines at first but once she gets a butt sniff things are pretty smooth. Penelope demonstrates typical GSD traits. She herds. She’s very vocal. And she definitely wants and needs a job. Her foster family believes she would do best in a young, active family. Kids too. She is extremely affectionate and an all-around great girl. Her pint-size makes her somewhat easier to handle than the larger dogs. Obedience and agility training would be right up her alley!

If you are interested in adopting Penelope, please fill out an application on our website. She is recovering from being spayed so we will be reviewing applications for a few days before responding, please be patient!
