My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Notes: 12-05-05 Blue has been living under the porch of a good samaritan for the past 3 months. She crawled under, delivered 8 puppies. Her puppies are now 8 weeks old, thus Blue has come to our rescue. We have "Aunt" Connie to thank for this lady. Once Blue dries up, she will receive complete vet care.
We will be taking inquiries in hopes Blue will have a home waiting once she has been fully vetted and rested up.

Blue's first stop was at Warsaw Vet Clinic. Blue weighed in at a healthy 74.8 lbs. She was scanned by Dr. Candy for a microchip, none found, thus an AVID chip was implanted. Dr. Candy's best guess is that Blue is a mix of choc. lab with perhaps spaniel. Blue rode extremely well in the vehicle, curled up on the passenger seat. Never even tried to help drive.
Blue appears to be going blind in her left eye from an old injury. Her right eye has a very unusual pigmentation. The good samaritan told us that Blue seems to have a bit of arthritis. Dr. Candy noted that her teeth are worn yet extremely clean. Thus, she may be a senior or a bit younger and a rock chewer.

We have spoken with the woman caring for Blue. She told us that she appears to be housebroken, gets along fine with her small dogs, also did well with a larger dog, never goes far from the porch.

Upon arrival at the sanctuary, resident cat T.C. greeted Blue, rubbed against her and no problem whatsoever.

Update 12-06-05 Blue rode along to Dr. Johnson as we had Chip neutered and fully vetted.
While there, Doc confirms Dr. Candy's comment that Blue is a rock chewer, thus may be 4 or 5 yrs. of age. We have adjusted her profile accordingly.
Both Doc and Heather agree that Blue may be mixed with Australian Shepherd due to the unique eye pigmentation and the coloring of the paws. Our own observation for just 24 hrs. around the donkeys confirms that aussie may be a bit more on target than spaniel. It is difficult to make a postive breed ID.
Since Blue is keeping mum, her exact age and mix are anyone's guess. We do our best to be accurate on age and breed. No guarantees! We do know that thus far her disposition is fantastic. She is very active when outside. We have yet to see any limping or difficulty moving about.
Blue is H/W, Lyme, Ehrlichia neg. and has been vaccinated for Rabies. She has a spay appt. for Dec. 19 as she should be dried up by then.

Update 12-07-05 We do not recommend Blue for livestock unless specifically needed for herding. She wants to herd the donkeys and they are used for predator control, thus can kill a dog or coyote.
It may be that Blue must be a housepet, not on a farm, unless to be a working dog.
Note - Blue has been in the house all afternoon, absolutely great about the house. Evidently the good samaritan is correct about her house manners. She will go to the door to go outside, then come back to the door to come inside. She then finds an empty pillow (which isn't easy here!) and spends the hours just watching the activity about her.
She has shown no annoyance with the other dogs. The little ones greeted her, yapping, in her muzzle, and she never even growled at them. The big dogs are not of any interest to her. She does like to put her head in your lap and be petted.

Note 12-08-05 We are extremely pleased to announce that Blue has excellent house manners. She slept quietly all night in her crate, then went out the door with the pack, did her duty, came back inside, hopped on the pillow before little ones could claim it. They had to find other pillows to lie upon.
She did stop briefly at the porch gate, looked at the barn, yet turned and immediately came inside when called.
Blue is going to make someone a wonderful house companion, walking companion, traveling companion. She has no issues with the other dogs, does not get car sick. Yeah!! She is a bit overweight, yet will slim down on diet and exercise. She is short in stature, not a tall dog.
Note 12-10-05 Blue was only crated the first night in the house. She has such excellent house manners that she is allowed to sleep on a pillow in the dining room. She is quiet all night, nary a problem. She goes out first thing, comes back inside, seems to know the donkeys are not to be her responsibility.
However, we will suggest 6' privacy fencing or supervision if she is not in the house.

Update 12-11-05 We have had Blue spend a few hours playing with Forrest, 6 yrs. old. She is very mellow, quite content to lie beside him, often just lying with her head on his lap.

Update 12-12-05 Elijah, 4 yrs. old, spent the morning with Blue. She was lying on her new Kuranda bed, donated by Sonja D. Thanks, Sonja!
Later we found Tippy & Lil Hans curled up together on the Kuranda bed.

Update 12-19-05 Blue was spayed today by Dr. Johnson. Yeah!!

Update 12-23-05 Blue is spending a few days of Christmas break with our volunteers Payton and Miranda and their mom Heidi.
Heidi has found that Blue likes to jog with her on the leash, also likes to share the bed.
Note 12-25-05 Heidi advised us that Blue has excellent house manners (confirms our observations here) and that she does fine with children. Yeah!!

Note 12-31-05 We have been observing Heidi and Blue jogging about town. This dog will make an excellent jogging partner, is doing fine in the house.

Heidi has advised us that Blue may need crate training or supervision if living in town. She hears noises, wants to investigate, tail wagging, thus collectibles must be up high from the tail energy.

With supervision, she is content to lie about, ignore the noises outside. She is NOT going to be a barking watchdog. She loves everyone, would just watch a burglar carry off the entire house.

Update 02-15-06 Heidi has advised us that Blue is going to be a permanent member of their family. They cannot imagine life without her now. She sleeps on the bed, is great about the house, has settled in to a routine and they cannot part with her.
We LOVE a failed foster like this!
A family pic. will be posted in the next few days
