My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

She's a little princess, and your lap is her throne! Cookie is an affectionate, curious little dog who switches between two modes - "snuggle" and "check-it-out" - without missing a beat. She's looking for a job as a best friend for a kind, calm human who is a bit of a homebody but likes walks and occasional adventures.

HISTORY
Cookie was released to us via a private rescuer in February, so we don't know much about her history. We're guessing she was with a family that was too loud for her, and that maybe included people who handled her roughly. It took a while for her to learn to accept strangers without nipping defensively, but with patient handling in her foster home she's morphed into an affectionate, sweet-natured girl.

SOCIALIZATION
Cookie is comfortable in unfamiliar environments, but she takes a while to warm up to new people. She prefers women, but can be nippy and barky with men she doesn't know. She needs her special human to be her advocate and protector; she is irresistibly cute, but this is not a dog who will be comfortable with random strangers barging in to pet her.

We haven't exposed her to children, but we believe she'd do better in a child-free home - although given time she would probably accept older visiting children who are polite and friendly.

She shares her foster home with two small dogs, and she's friendly toward dogs she meets when out visiting. However, she doesn't tolerate pushy large dogs getting up in her business, and has no hesitation in nipping their noses if they get pushy!

She also shares her foster home with cats and caged birds. She LOVES the cats and likes playing with them, and she generally ignores the birds.

GENERAL BEHAVIOR AND TEMPERAMENT
First and foremost, Cookie is a lapdog! She's happiest when she can survey the world from the comfort and safety of her person's lap, and she loves to cuddle.

But this girl is no couch potato! She will fly off the lap to play with the cats or dogs in her foster home, and she loves to run zoomies through the house and out in the backyard. She's not that interested in toys, chewies and so on - she's more about engaging actively with her human or other animals.

Cookie is a good traveler. She enjoys going out and about, and would be a great companion for casual walks around your neighborhood or through local parks or easy trails.

She's generally quiet, although she'll bark to let you know there's someone at the door.

TRAINING
Cookie is 90% house-trained. She usually waits to go outside to potty, and is learning to ask to be let out. If caught short indoors she usually uses a potty pad, and only occasionally has accidents. Provided her adopter takes her out on a regular routine we expect her to be fully house trained without too much difficulty.

She's comfortable in a crate, but is rarely crated in her foster home and would prefer not to spend long periods in the crate. She'll climb out of a 2-foot puppy pen, but can be contained in a taller pen. However, she's generally a good little princess who isn't destructive and doesn't get into trouble, so her foster mom usually lets her stay loose.

She walks well on a leash with harness and usually comes when called, if there isn't something more interesting to capture her attention. Apart from that she doesn't know much - but she's an alert, mama-focused pup who enjoys treats, and is young enough to learn basic obedience and a few tricks - and maybe more.

HEALTH STATUS
Cookie has been spayed, treated for parasites, vaccinated and microchipped. She appears to be in excellent health.

On intake in February our vet estimated her age at around 6 months, so we've assigned her 8/15/2022 as a birthday. At nine months she weighs 7 lbs, so we don't believe her weight will go over 8 lbs when she's full grown.
