My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Willow is an estimated 2-3 year old pittie mix who weighs 59lbs. Miss Willow was found over a year ago, and was taken in by a Good Samaritan that agreed to foster her! Her current foster reports she’s a sweet, happy girl who always has a smile on her face, and she does great with adults and other dogs. She has not been around children or cats since being with her current foster.

Willow has lived most of her life on the streets, or living in an outdoor pen. Before being with her foster, it seems she also had several litters. But now, it’s time for her to be spayed, vetted, and finally learn what it means to be a beloved family companion.

During Willow's initial vetting, it was found she had a lot of problems yet to overcome now that she is in rescue. The worst of all, she tested positive for heartworm disease. Heartworms are a parasite that are spread by mosquitoes, and live within the heart and blood vessels. They eat away at the vessel walls, which can ultimately lead to heart failure. In addition to heartworm disease, Willow also tested positive for the tick-borne diseases Lyme and Ehrlichiosis. Because of this, her heartworm treatment will be even more tricky, as she has underlying conditions that can suppress her immune system as she battles off these awful parasites. While Willow is starting her treatment now, there is a long road to recovery ahead of her.

While Willow's current foster is happy to keep her while she undergoes treatment, we would really love to find her a foster-to-adopt home so she can heal. She currently spends the majority of her time in a covered outdoor pen, which is not ideal for her recovery.
