My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Name’s Story: Aslan, named for the gentle, wise and beautiful lion in "The Chronicles of Narnia" came into foster on January 21st. We know little about his history -- we have to assume he was someone's pet at some point as he was already neutered, and has clearly not missed too many meals! His coat upon arrival, however, is going to need a lot of work. Aslan is what's known as a "wooly" -- a Siberian with a longer-than usual coat. This obviously offers him a unique and exotic look (especially when coupled with those incredible eyes and that baby face!) It also means that his grooming needs are greater than those of a regular Siberian, and this grooming has clearly been lacking, whether it was from neglect in a home or to him running loose for an unknown period of time. It may be necessary to clip his coat short and give him a fresh start, though that remains to be seen.

Name's Foster Mom Says: So far, we know only what the shelter and transporters told us. The shelter said "He is a wonderful dog. He can "sit", "shake" and "lay down" down (for treats). He was great with all the small children last night. He also seems to like other dogs, and he sniffed and wagged his tail at every dog he passed, and then went on. Other than needing a grooming, he appears to be a 'ready-to-go' pet!" The transporters, to a one, commented on how sweet and gentle he is -- he was good in the car, lying quietly on the seat and accepting treats, and also was generous with his kisses. Check back SOON for more info!

Updates from the Foster Home:

What a sweetheart this guy is! What a champ! His coat is such a mess and I decided I was going to tackle some of it. He laid down for it the entire time - here I am pulling out chunks of hair (that didn't want to come out easily because of the knots) and he's being a perfect angel. He has had to of gone through some serious brushing before. I only got some of it done, his face looks 1000% better. I got a lot of his tail matts gone as well. He is a vocal boy, too. He has no problem telling us what he thinks. He really does look like a lion, tell Steve, WHAT A PERFECT NAME FOR HIM
This dog's adoption donation is $200. If you know how much it costs to give a new dog responsible vet care, you can easily see that this is quite a bargain! This donation pays for the vetting -- the dog is free! Vetting includes a complete health exam, neutering, microchipping, and heartworm testing. He will have been kept on heartworm and flea preventative, and will be fully vaccinated and free of parasites.
