My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

CHARACTERISTICS
active, amusing, bashful, cute, fun, gentle, goofy, graceful, happy, healthy, independent, mischievous, playful, quiet, quirky, shy, silly, smart, soft, sweet

Amanda is easy-going, good-natured, and gets along great with her other feline friends and often snuggles with her BFF Sophie (see her profile and consider adopting the pair for a purrfect feline family!).

From her foster caregiver at the FAN Rescue Sanctuary:

"Amanda is very playful; she just loves to chase the broom as you sweep. She loves being petted, but she's shy and has to get to know you first before trusting you. If she were in a forever home by herself or with one other cat, she definitely could become a lap kitty - particularly if treats are involved! She's inquisitive, endearing, and sometimes silly - she loves rolling on her back with her tummy out. She loves to meet the new cats that come to the rescue sanctuary and always checks out the scene to make sure everything is in order. Amanda will always come out to greet and rub against you, and she enjoys just hanging out nearby people. Amanda doesn't really want to be picked up, most likely because she was a feral and slightly older when she was rescued (8 months). I predict this may change once she gets to know her family. Amanda LOVES chicken baby food from a jar and will often hop into your lap if she knows that you have some to share. She's a stunning dilute calico with pretty light green eyes. Not much is known about her backstory but whatever may have happened to her in her past has not prevented her from wanting love and being open to socializing."

AMANDA has been working in Foster-care on her socialization skills, and she’s now ready for adoption. Here's a little explanation in poetic form from our team:

I May Never Be A Lap Cat
- Ode to the Independent Feline

I may never be a lap cat, or snuggle by your face;
I’m quite aloof and lovely, but I’ll beautify your space!
I want to be your kitty; just don’t hold me tight.
If you try to kiss me, I might put up a fight.

As a baby kitten, I had no human cuddles.
Now I need your patience, though I can’t reward with snuggles.
I won’t be good with children; they scare me just a bit.
They run around and grab me; while I prefer to sit.

I’m an independent feline, but I need your love and care.
I want to live inside with you, but I need my own chair.
I will keep you company on long and winter days.
I’ll sit and watch you as you work - I might decide to play.

I may let you come closer, once you earn my trust.
I’ll definitely eat your food, and good treats are a must!
So won’t you take me home with you and give me lots of space?
And time to be more comfortable and roam about your place?

You can worship and adore me, and I will love you too.
But I am not a lap cat, and that will have to do.
