My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Everyone meet Spike! Spike is believed to be around 2 years old and has a traumatic backstory that unfortunately we don't know the full truth. I'll get into his history in a moment but what we do know is he is such an amazing, sweet boy that just wants to lay on the couch and cuddle with his humans and a blanket. Spike is FIV+ and missing some front teeth. Please don't let the FIV scare you. FIV is spread through viscous bites and intercourse. Spike is living in a foster home with many other kitties and has never once tried to attack them (not saying it can't happen it just hasn't) and we got him neutered over a month ago. Even though he is missing a few teeth he still enjoys daily hard food.

Now some back story on Spike he was found outside a farmers house one day which sadly is to common. Innocent lives being dropped off at farms when they're no longer wanted. Upon finding Spike they realized he wasn't like the rest of the farm cats, he instantly wanted affection and very talkative but with a closer look they realized Spike was badly hurt. Spike had a large wound on his neck and a healing wound on his back shoulders. After a trip to our local vet they did find a healing puncture wound on his shoulders so the speculation is something attacked poor Spike and the wounds were left untreated causing an infection to run through his body causing the missing skin from his chest and shoulders. The other speculation is with his mouth injury he could have been hit by a car and these injuries are road rash and blunt force trauma and the bite wound happened before/after the accident. He does carry a front limp every now and then and the vet says he will always have that most likely and is probably due to his chest wound. As his skin tries to heal scare tissue is forming and causing tension when he walks.

Despite all of this Spike is still a wonderful loving guy that deserves his happily every after! His foster home has a year and a half old human daughter that doesn't understand Spike doesn't like to have fingers in his face all the time or quick movement at him which is understandable not knowing what he truly went through. So we would recommend Spike only be adopted to a home with older kids that understand "No leave the cat alone or you will get scratched". His foster home also has two dogs a larger breed (pitty mix) and a small Pomeranian and he is very guarded around them, if they move at him quickly or scare him he does smack the dogs. So out of safety to Spike and dogs we say no to adopting him to a home with dogs. His bite trauma may have been from a dog with the way his fear is so we don't want to have Spike continue to live in fear.

If you think you can give this amazing FIV+ boy a good long life apply today at pinkdogrescue.org

Spike does still have the wounds on his chest as you can see in the picture. We will continue any care those wounds may need but with the FIV he is just a much slower healer than a regular cat. It just needs time to heal now as he has had a few rounds of antibiotics and steroids.
