My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Maggie is just the sweetest 6-7 year old German Shepherd with a gentle soul & kind heart. Prior to entering the rescue, we're not sure she's ever truly been loved. Maggie has had chronic ear infections because her previous owner wouldn't clean her ears or give needed meds to resolve the issue. Instead, he wanted to euthanize her. One of her ears will never stand up again. It's called a cauliflower ear.  This doesn't bother us - we think she is beautiful just the way she is!! Maggie's ears are much better. She needs someone who will monitor and clean them frenquestly but no meds are needed at this time.  Maggie is such a good girl and deserves a loving family. She loves to give her foster parents kisses when she gets excited. Maggie likes to play and run a bit in the yard when it's sunny and dry, but prefers to be chillin inside with her fmaily in the cool air conditioning. We think she would do okay with another older dog (with proper introduction) but may prefer to be an only dog. She doesn't like other dogs in her face wanting to play as she is pretty chill. Maggie needs some leash training but will pick it up quickly. If you would like to meet/adopt/foster/foster to adopt Maggie, please submit an adoption application.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Adoption is a four part process.

Application: You will be required to submit general information along with personal and vet references.

Home visit: Potential adopters will receive a home visit by one of our members.

Meet -n- Greet: All family members (fur babies included) must meet the foster parent and pup they wish to adopt.

Here at Dirt Road Doggies Rescue, each adoption contribution is a flat rate per dog. We do not adjust this rate based on the "popularity" of a dog. We believe every dog is worthy of an owner that sees the value in them. Each adoption contribution is used to cover the expenses incurred for that dog and other dogs in our program.

Go meet their pets

Dirt Road Doggies Rescue, INC is located in the quaint town of Gillsville, in the foothills of the Georgia Mountains, just south of Gainesville. Our rescues are fostered in loving homes located in Hall, Jackson, and neighboring counties.

More about this rescue

We are a small canine rescue group located in Northeast Georgia that works tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate, fully vet, and re-home faithful dogs that have been tossed out of cars onto rural roads. We are a registered, 501c3 tax deductible Non Profit Rescue and we are licensed by the Georgia Department of Agriculture

All dogs in our program have been previously reported to animal control to ensure they were not lost pups who had a family diligently looking for them. We do not turn a dog away due to breed, health concerns, or age. It is our goal to keep these dogs out of animal shelters, thus saving their lives and providing more time to the dogs already in shelters to find their forever family.
