Here's what the humans have to say about me:
🐶 🐕 BERNARD Male Border collie mix approximately 3 years, 36 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶
BERNARD, aka BERNIE, is a happy, delightful, 3-year-old tri-colored border collie mix with a medium rough coat. He weighs in at 36 lbs. Bernie fit into his foster home quite well from the word go. His preference is to spend his time with his people, but also enjoys the company of his four foster siblings (male and female) and they enjoy his company. They love to run, play, and wrestle around. After some running and playing, he loves to join his foster dad on the swinging bench for pets and cuddles. When inside, if we give him a sliver on the couch he’ll squeeze his way in or just make his home on dad’s lap (try saying no to that face).
BERNIE is crate and house-trained. He has had no accidents in his foster home while keeping his crate clean as a whistle. He spends his nights and some down time in his crate. BERNIE is quiet while crated unless he has to potty. He rarely wakes overnight, but if you sleep in too late and he’s got to go he’ll let you know. During free time he will head to the back door but it’s unclear if he’s signaling, or just wants to spend time out back. He enjoys toys for short periods of time. Having lots of toys around would be of benefit, as he does enjoy collecting them in a convenient spot or two around the house.
BERNIE does demonstrate some herding behavior, so he would do best with a dog his size or larger. He seems okay with the indoor cats, but as with many bc’s, we’d not trust him if the cat were outside, and especially if it were to run. We think he’d also be fine as the only dog in the house as long as he gets consistent, frequent attention and plenty of exercise from his active and engaged family.
BERNIE is more treat than praise-oriented but does enjoy hearing “good boy,” so training should be fun. If you are looking for an active, loving, and happy boy, BERNIE may be just the one for you.
