My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Hatch Date: 2011

Misty is a beautiful and playful 12-year-old Timneh African Grey who loves being in the company of people.  She is confirmed Female and grew up as an only-bird with her original family. While she tolerates other birds in her foster home, she would probably prefer to be the only bird and center of attention in her next home.

Misty is affectionate in that she enjoys company, mimics laughter from anywhere in the home, and generally seems most content with activity around her instead of long quiet days.  However, Misty does not appreciate being handled beyond a brief step up and a walk around to the next room.  She will not tolerate head scritches or other "petting." When she is not in the mood to step up or be engaged, she will bite.  She is well-bonded with two people in her foster home and will not allow handling from others.

Misty likes to make lots of noises, like R2D2 and kissing sounds, and she picks up names quickly, like "Andrew, get up!".  Her most used word is "What?" and her most frequent phrases are "Misty, step up!" and "How are you?"  She plays with wooden and rope toys and randomly engages with foraging or puzzle toys.  When she's excited, she hangs upside down and weaves her head in a figure 8.  She's a very talented gymnast!

Misty enjoys out-of-enclosure time, mostly to perch, chat, eat, preen, be around people, tear up paper and push ball toys around.  While she can fly, she is more likely to climb down her cage and walk across the floor to the other room... waddle, waddle!  She doesn't like to be spritzed or engage with running water.  She will occassionally dunk her head in her bowl of water for a bath.

She is on a ZuPreem Pellet diet, and prefers the Red and Orange ones. Carrots, cashews and banana chips are her favorite treats.

Misty is being fostered in Maplewood, NJ  and will only be adopted to a forever home within driving distance.
We will NOT ship our birds.

For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA. We do not have a central location.  As our adoptable birds are living in volunteers’ homes, or in their family's
homes, we only allow approved applicants to meet our birds.

If interested in meeting Misty, please review our adoption policies, and complete an adoption application on our website ftlob.rescuegroups.org.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption procedure begins with completing an adoption application and returning it to us. We will check your references and then call you for a telephone interview. While we check your references, we will ask that you review an educational power point presentation. After your application is approved, it is our policy that you visit with the bird(s) three times to have multiple interactions with them and give you time to consider the adoption and get ready for your new family member. There is an adoption fee for each bird.
