My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

STEVE ~2 years old. Good with dogs and older considerate kids,  Cats TBD.

GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only.

Who is the life of the party, well that would be Steve!  If you can picture that guy who, when he has had one too many, ends up with the lamp shade on his head – that would be Steve. lol  This sweet boy is overflowing with so much love and enthusiasm for people.  If you ever felt down, he would definitely lift your spirits.  This boy loves hard though, so it’s better that there were no small kids in the house but it’s only because he would bowl them over and smother them with kisses before you could get him off them!  I believe he would be okay with older considerate kids.

Steve lives life out loud! He loves going for walks and exploring new things. He is up for any adventures you want to take him on.  Steve is very excited to meet doggie friends. He is a bit socially awkward and is still learning how to read the cues when the other dogs have had enough.  I guess he never got a chance to play when he was a pup. ☹ But he is ready to learn, he just needs someone to help show him the way.  Just look at his videos!

He does ok on the leash but will need someone who will continue working with him on training.  He is food motivated so that is always a bonus.

Steve was picked up as a stray. He was half starved and weigh about 35 lbs. He had also been hit by a car and the shelter took him to the vet. Steve was at the shelter for a while and they did a wonderful job helping him gain weight and getting use to being handled.

Steve would love a family that is ready to be showered with love because he has plenty to give.  He would love a fenced yard so he could run and play.  He would love a playful companion that could help him learn the ropes.

Do you think this happy boy could be the one you are looking for?

More about this rescue

Thank you for considering adopting a GSRA dog. We love that you are exploring rescuing a GSD. We firmly believe that the adoption of a dog is not one to be taken lightly. Because of this belief, our adoption process is what some would described as lengthy and can be emotional. If you are looking to take a dog home "tomorrow", unfortunately our organization is not for you.
