My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Simon is currently a Florida boy living on the outskirts of Tampa after starting his life out in Oklahoma. He is a young 1 year goof who wants to give all kinds of kisses to his people. This dude had no manners whatsover and was basically a gigantic puppy that needed to learn! He still has a lot of learning to do but we can say that he loves to train now! At first it was a rocky road trying to teach him basic manners and that people are not ladders to climb! After learning some methods from a professional trainer we are proud to say that he is making good progress!

Simon was good with his littermates when we took them all in and he has been good around other friendly dogs where he is now. We wish he could run and play but unfortunately he has a torn ACL and is preparing to have TPLO surgery. This came as a surprise to us and his $4,000 estimate did too but he is worth every penny! We expect him to make a full recovery and live a normal dogo life once this is all behind him. We are taking adoption applications for him now and expect that he would be healed and ready for a new home around mid September 2023.

The best home for Simon would be one that is eager to continue training with him and taking him out to socialize. He is young enough to overcome his crappy start to life and with his happy-go-lucky attitude we know he will make a great new companion! He really if fun to train and hotdogs seem to have magical powers when it comes to his learning.

Simon was one for the 4 OKC puppies saved after being dumped at a pet store. A kind man who didn't have a home of his own helped care for the dogs best he could on a piece of property until we were able to help. They were covered in ticks and our fosters helped get them cleaned up to start their new rescue lives. Currently the boys are all in Florida and Brittany is in Louisiana and you can check their profiles to see if they are still available to adopt too!

Dogos are a wonderful breed but we urge anyone interested to dig in and do a lot of research before deciding if they are a good fit for your home. They require a lot of attention and training with them never ends! Boundaries must be enforced and they often need reminders as they push past boundaires you set! Dogos are loving, kind and gentle but don't mistake that for weakness because they are equally powerful and intense as well! Everyone in the home must be on board with having a dogo and play a major role in their daily routines and training. Yes it is work, but the rewards are ten-fold! Lazy homes don't work for dogos as they need stimulation, exercise, and lots of attention too during their younger years. Our goal in rescue is to be as transparent as we can about each and every dog plus make sure new families really understand the needs of a dogo!

More about this rescue

We are a breed specific dog rescue and direct our efforts on saving Dogo Argentino's across the United States. Our volunteers are dedicated to this breed and concerned about how many are ending up in rescue. We want to educate new owners of this breed and help lessen the amount we are seeing in the rescue network!
