UPDATE: Lucy was transferred to another rescue where she had a lot more exposure for adoption. She has been adopted into a great home. Thanks for adopting.

Lucy is a Katrina rescue. She was rescued prior to the storm by a kind person that kept her for a couple of years. When Katrina hit he couldn't take her with him. She has been all around the country now - all the way out to California and back! We took her from New Orleans and have fostered her since ( a long story and journey). She is a great and affectionate cat. She is particular, as most cats are. She has learned to tolerate the many dogs in & out of here, though it took quite a while. She could easily acclimate to other dogs that didn't fuss with her. She took a long time to get on with the other cat in the house. They never became friends and she just ignores him now. She is such a beautiful cat and she just wants a nice quiet place to call home for the rest of her life. She is only about 4-5 years old.
Safe Dogs By The River does not adopt cats to homes that will declaw. There are many solutions to clawing issues, including but not limited to, nail trims, cat scratchers/furniture, Soft Paws and basic training. We will adopt to indoor/outdoor homes as long as the home is not on a a busy road. Otherwise we adopt out indoor only cats.
