Hi everyone! My name is Homer. I arrived at SafeHaven with my 7 siblings back in July. Since arriving here at such a young age, I'm a puppy that has grown up in a shelter environment. Overlooked by anyone who walks by my kennel, I continued to be scared and very shy. I think most people expect a bouncy happy friendly pup, but not all dogs are the same or move at the same pace. I do great with other dogs and truly am a sweetheart, I just need a little more time to adjust in a quiet home that has lots of time to let me decompress. I was in a foster home so I could get some more socialization. My foster parent said the following about me (I'm so proud of how far I've come in the past 6 months with my foster family!):
"Homer is a snuggle bug! He loves the couch and is always joining us there. As soon as we get up, he's right behind us. He loves to play with our dog and is so athletic! He's gotten so comfortable now, he'll even get the occasional zoomies- running circles around and around our dog while they play. He enjoys going on walks. He loves walks so much now, he gets very excited when we get his harness and leash out. He does pull a bit, his nose has a lot of exploring to do and loves to sniff around!".
His Foster Parents also recommended cheese and peanut butter for tasty treats! Homer is crate trained, but sometimes has to be coaxed with a treat first.
I had the BEST foster family, but I hope to find my forever home very soon. Are you looking for a true rescue? I will be work at first, but I'm so worth it!

More about this shelter
For over 40 years, SafeHaven Humane Society has worked to help our communities’ residents be the best humane beings they can be by providing compassionate temporary shelter care; healthy adoptable animals; information, understanding and education; and population control through spay and neuter programs, instead of euthanasia.
Mission
Finding Homes…Opening Hearts….Educating Minds to strengthen and improve the lives of animals and people.
Vision
We envision a community where every adoptable, treatable companion animal has a loving home and where every loving home has the opportunity to care for a companion animal.
Values
We are guided by the belief that no adoptable or treatable companion animal should be unnecessarily euthanized due to space, time, appearance or treatable conditions.
We are committed to:
* Giving a new chance to companion animals who would otherwise be discarded.
* Strengthening the humane animal bond through education.
* Helping people and their companion animals stay together through the support of programs and services.
* Leading responsibly with compassion.
