My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Taz, a handsome 2-year-old male, was found as a stray in Stockton with multiple wounds and an injury from having a collar embedded in his neck. We found him to be a very sweet but timid boy and were delighted to bring him into our program to heal, decompress, to learn the art of becoming a great family dog.

Taz has shown his true colors as a smart, playful, super-affectionate, and calm boy who just wants to connect with and please his people. At only 65 lbs., he is kid friendly and has been around children as young as 5 years old. Even though Taz is friendly to strangers (men and women alike) on his walks, he prefers the ladies and would do best with a woman owner upon whom he will shower affection, love, and unlimited snuggles. At home however, Taz is extremely uncomfortable with “big” men.

Check out Taz's video on YouTube!

Taz is comfortable around all kinds of dogs showing neither aggression nor enthusiasm. He can entertain himself with stuffed toys but he LOVES his ball and will play fetch with you for as long as you want! Very little prey drive is detected but he finds it entertaining to chase shore birds and deer. With a low prey drive, Taz just might be okay with cats!

Given his previous neck trauma, Taz now sports a harness and enjoys a long morning walk and then just hanging out with his people and his foster-sister. He walks very lightly on the leash, at your pace with no pulling.

Taz is housebroken, crate trained, and happily perfecting his house manners. He now responds well to off, sit, down, place and shake. Additionally, Taz sleeps soundly in his crate at night for 8 hours.

With the foster’s consistency and a routine, Taz seems to gain confidence every day. We have no doubt that if his new owner continues offering this boy opportunities to safely explore his immediate world, he will be an amazing companion who is deeply connected and loyal.

Watch Taz practice his obedience!  (and check out his soulful eyes!)

Taz is a level 3 dog

Adoption Process

Our adoption process is designed to help you and the right dog find each other. Our goal is to place each dog into a permanent, safe, and loving home.

To adopt a German Shepherd Dog from us, you must:

1. Live in Northern California.
2. Complete an Adoption Questionnaire, either online, or by mail. If you do not own your home, you must also have your landlord complete the Landlord Letter.
3. Be interviewed by an adoption counselor.
4. Allow a home visit by an adoption counselor.
5. Choose, and be chosen by, the right dog.
6. With our approval, sign our Adoption Agreement, and pay the associated fee.
7. At the time of adoption we also collect a deposit which is refunded after completion of two training sessions.

After we receive your online Adoption Questionnaire, we will call you to begin the adoption process. We encourage potential adopters to come to one or more Adoption Days, because that is the best way to meet several German Shepherds and to find your new companion. If you attend an Adoption Day and choose a dog, you may be able to adopt the same day, if all adoption requirements are met.

If you cannot come to any Adoption Day, we can still assist you, this may take longer because the people who will help you are volunteers who usually have jobs, and scheduling meetings with dogs can be complex because our dogs live in many homes and kennels.

We do not adopt to homes outside of Northern California.
