My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LOCATION: Fort Worth, Texas
DOB: 06/27/2015

Why adopt one gorgeous dog when you can adopt two! Meet Granny (white/double merle) and Jed (black) - a gorgeous combo and bonded pair that have found a good life at their foster’s home and are so very appreciative of the love they are receiving. They return the love not just in two’s but in galzillions.

Both kids are pretty laid-back. They prefer to let the youngins steal the activity spotlight. They have a furry foster sibling dog who they get along well with but outside of that friend, they haven’t had much exposure to other dogs besides those at the vet’s office. They were curious of them but not aggressive towards any of them, even the one that barked at them. Jed gave a bark back but that was all. How they would do with cats is unknown. They are good with kids.

Granny doesn’t see too well anymore but she learned the lay of her foster’s home very quickly, at first following Jed in and out of the doggie door, then being able to utilize it independently. They have had no accidents in the house. With Granny’s compromised sight, she will need a fenced yard, no pool, and limited stairs.

Neither dog minds going in the crate and are perfectly happy to take a little treat to sweeten the deal. But after a few days with the foster they were able to be left unsupervised outside of the crate and did great. Leash work is fine and Jed will load no problem into the back of an SUV. Sweet Granny gets her front half in but she needs some human assistance with her tush end.

They are both timid of belts and will cower if you have one in your hand or are putting one on until they know it's okay - an unfortunate remnant memory perhaps of their past life. But they have never shown aggression. They have no food aggression and even stick their noses in each other's bowls if you let them. Granny likes to sleep on a dog bed in her foster poppy’s bedroom and Jed will find his way into bed and likes to lay right next to a warm body.

Granny and Jed probably had a rough past. Jed has some scars down his back to prove it. But the love they are showing towards their foster is immense. They need someone who will listen to their heart and leap at the chance to adopt these two amazing kiddos.

More about this rescue

To rescue Great Danes from neglect, abuse, and abandonment while providing medical care and individual rehabilitation through our experienced and loving foster home program until we are able to provide each rescued Dane with a qualified, caring, and permanent home that will ensure a good quality of life they deserve.

To assist owners that cannot afford spaying, neutering or heartworm treatment as funds allow while also educating owners on affordable, local spay/neuter clinics, spay/neuter benefits, vaccinations, backyard breeding, behavior, nutrition, and obedience. Additionally, we want to be a link point to other rescues and clubs. Raising awareness around rescues and the Great Dane breed is of great importance to us.

We have been rescuing Great Danes since 2011 and we take pride in the collective love, concern, and dedication we have given to the misunderstood and forgotten Danes. It is our mission to continue to be the voices of the less fortunate Danes and to provide them safety and their birthright to a quality of life filled with love and dignity. You can help us achieve our mission by donating funds, items from our wishlist, items of relevance, your time through volunteering, or by lending your home as a foster.
