My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Kate is a PAWFECT 6-year old German Shepherd who weighs about 96 pounds.  Her foster mom said " Kate is an excellent dog. I've no idea why anyone would ever want to give her up. She's a good listener, a good rule follower, and she loves to be around her people. Kate will need extra help sometimes because she has arthritis, but if you're willing to help her, she will be the most loyal companion you've ever had - probably better than your spouse! LOL!"

Kate's a smart girl and knows all the basic commands: sit, stay, leave it, etc.  She is house and crate trained.  Kate is non-confrontational, so if her 4-year old human foster sibling does something Kate isn't a fan of, she'll simply get up and walk away.  She is very good with kids and if her human foster sibling offers her something, she takes it very gently.

Kate loves toys and she's more motivated by toys than treats.  She enjoys a short game of fetch, but after a few minutes she'll plop down for a break.  Due to her arthritis, she isn't overly active.  She does enjoy short walks and has excellent leash manners.

Two of Kate's favorite activities include rolling in the grass (she does it every time they go outside) and lounging in a mud puddle, especially on hot days.  If you don't want to bathe her all the time, avoid those mud puddles - LOL!!

Due to her arthritis, Kate will do best in a home with very few stairs.  Her foster family LOVES her, but feel it's best to find her a home with fewer stairs than they have.

If you have room in your heart and home for this good girl, apply today!  Her minimum adoption fee is $295 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents.

She has been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.

She knows all the basic commands, like sit, stay, leave it, etc. She's non confrontational, so if my 4 year old does something she's not a fan of, she will simply get up and walk away. She is more toy motivated than treat, but she likes treats too.
She only stayed still for a bath because the door was closed, but she wasn't the biggest fan. But that was only the second day we had her, so she may have still been nervous.

She will play fetch for a few minutes but then she plops down for a break. She's not overly active, I think because of the pain.

She is gentle with kiddos. When my son offers her something, she uses gentle mouth.

She walks very nicely on the leash. Even when other dogs barked at her as we walked past. She looked over at them and kept walking. She also doesn't care about fireworks. We actually went for a walk on July 4th while fireworks were actively being set off, and she barely reacted at all. Just pointed her ears in the direction.

My son has accidentally let her out with just her collar on and instead of running away, she just sauntered around the yard smelling things. So from what I've seen, she doesn't bolt.

She likes mud. Especially on hot days. If you don't want to bathe her all the time, try to keep mud puddles at bay in your yard.

She LOVES rolling in the grass. I don't know why, she just does it every time we go outside.

She is completely potty and crate trained. She has never had an accident inside the house, and is good about communicating when she needs to go. She has slept through the night every night since night 3.

Kate is an excellent dog. I've no idea why anyone would ever want to give her up. She's a good listener, a good rule follower, and loves to be around her people. She will need extra help sometimes because of the arthritis, but if you're willing to help her, she will be the most loyal companion you've ever had (probably including your spouse)
