Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Our handsome Cheeseburger is that exceptional, all around family dog, that is rare in Rescue. He loves everybody and has not flinched at all during a rescue process that leaves lesser dogs rattled.
We've been trying to piece together Cheeseburger's backstory. He was found as a country stray, but there is not much to go on. Vets say that he is an adult dog 2-3 years old. He was badly emaciated and malnourished when he arrived at the Shelter. But staff worked diligently to restore his health and boyish good looks. We hear that his nutritional rehabilitation began at McDonald's!
When no worried owner came forward to collect Cheeseburger, he was transferred to our Connecticut Rescue so that we could script the next chapter of his life.
Throughout the chaotic rescue process, Cheeseburger has been an absolute charmer. He is so full of life, love and personality. Cheeseburger is like a kid in a candy shop, soaking up new experiences with sheer glee, and he has a bit of the puppy Mojo going on. He is a super dog that would do well in any type of environment.
Cheeseburger appears to be a Redtick CoonHound, and he lives up to their lovable reputation. He is a medium sized dog, at a lean weight of 50 pounds. His short, flat coat is largely tan and white, with a "red" ticking pattern on his chest and legs. He has striking, deep brown eyes. Cheeseburger is a handsome boy who has a mischievous twinkle in his eyes, and he always looks like he's flashing a giant smile.
Cheeseburger is a very happy-go-lucky guy, and would be a great addition to an active family with older, dog savvy kids. He is friendly and will give everyone in the family equal attention. Cheeseburger is not one to play favorites, and he is stranger friendly. He could also join an active single or couple, who can provide at least one to two leisurely leash walks, so that he can meander and stop to smell the "roses." Scent hounds are extremely easy to manage because the leisurely walk that engages their senses, provides much needed mental and physical exercise.
Cheeseburger also needs a fair amount of exercise and focused playtime so that he does not become bored and get into mischief. He would benefit greatly from ongoing obedience training, which is helpful in providing additional mental stimulation. He is learning his commands, although he can become distracted easily, but he is treat motivated. He responds well to Positive Reinforcement and Leadership techniques, and seems to enjoy his training sessions. He seems to be a confident boy, ready and willing to work.
Cheeseburger has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home. He has been neutered, and has received routine vaccinations and health screenings.
