UPDATE: Lucey is doing FABULOUSLY!! She is almost 100% housebroken! She will tell you when she wants to go outside and do her business. She LOVES to walk on a leash ... the perfect home for her is someone who wants to walk multiple times a day. Her leash manners need a little work. She is so smart, she is learning quickly. She prefers to sleep in her crate and will put herself to bed when it is time. She has started playing with toys ... and will go pick up a toy and entertain herself for a bit. She likes to sit in your lap ... and she LOVES having her ears scratched. She even will roll over to have her belly rubbed! She has found her voice, and will bark on occasion ... when she sees someone walk by outside or to get your attention. It is always heart-warming when a dog who has come from a puppy mill begins to bark ... it means they are relaxing and getting comfortable. She is not a "barker" ... more like a completely appropriate alarm system! When nothing is happening, she will sit quietly at foster mom's feet, helping her work, or she will find a dog bed and snuggle in for a nap. Lucey is a perfect little yorkie lady! She will see the vet at the end of July, and once she is spayed and has her teeth cleaned, she will be ready for adoption. Do not miss out on this sweetheart!

Lucy is a 6 year old, 8 pound little yorkie.  She came to us from a breeder/puppy mill in Pennsylvania. But that was not always her life. Her previous owner decided she no longer wanted Lucy and just traded her in for a Maltese puppy from the breeder.  The breeder didn't lose a thing, one female for another who can produce!!!!! Can you imagine, one day you are someone's pet and the next day you are a breeding machine, spitting out puppies as often as possible?

There is a happy ending though.  First, she will NEVER be made to breed again! Second, and maybe more importantly, she remembers home life! She remembers the feel of the grass. She knows what a leash is and is ready to relearn her walking skills. She isn't as afraid of love and affection as the usual puppy mill survivor! She is still timid but she is adjusting much quicker than expected, which is awesome. Experience with puppy mill dogs preferred.

She will see the vet for spay and dental cleaning at the end of July.  She can then be adopted.

We will post more about Lucy as we get to know her.  Please follow us on our social media channels to see the most up to date information.
