My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

A few things about Deputy: He doesn’t like to be forced to do anything. If you try and manhandle him or force him, he will snap at you in defense of himself. To get him in a crate just throw a treat in and he will go right in, don’t try to push him He is sensitive to touch on his sides, we believe that he was abused to make him appear to be a mean dog, which he is NOT. I never touch his sides first when petting him I will pet his head or back first He hasn’t snapped when I rub his sides…. but he will tense up at first. He can get a little mouthy when excited, but this is common with Mals and Shepherds as they use their mouths a lot

…… I have been working on this and he is getting better. He will respond to “no” but if you are telling him no and reach towards him at the same time, he feels threatened and will snap or growl. Please understand that he has never broken skin when he snaps it is more of a warning due to someone hurting him in the past…. possibly on the side which is why he is more sensitive there. He is also a nut for water, he just LOVES IT. He will flip any water dish and he will climb into any water trough to play in it. He also will flip his metal food dish over and carry it around and play with it. He knows sit, fetch (is crazy about playing fetch absolutely loves it), and he knows come. Once he knows you, he will not bolt if off leash, but until then, please keep him on lead. He will stay by you once he knows that you are his person. He is great with other dogs and has been mostly good with cats. The only time he wants to chase them is when they run. He is a really an exceptionally good dog and quite fun. He has been one of my favorite fosters. He just has a few quirks which I think is from past abuse. He is fully vetted and HW-. He shows signs of abuse as his teeth are filed down and he appears to have been kicked in the past.
