My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

He has been taken to shelter due to seizures. Has had no seizures since being at shelter and his meds with increased. HE IS FREE TO A FAMILY THAT CAN CARE FOR HIM. CALL/TEXT ME 610-787-2353.
PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION AND HISTORY OF THIS SWEET BOY - Intake on 6/30/2023
Bruce is a ~10-month-old NM St. Bernard originally adopted from our shelter six months ago. He began having epileptic seizures and his family could not afford his necessary medical care. Bruce most-recently lived in a townhouse with two people including a 3.5-year-old child, with whom he was “very loving playful, friendly – sometimes doesn’t know his size.” He also lived with two cats with whom he was “curious, friendly, but mostly left them alone.” Bruce was usually kept loose in the home or crated, and was rarely left alone—“only when running errands, otherwise was with me always – took him to work with me.” He was let out for bathroom breaks approximately evert 4 hours (frequency increased with medical condition) and he had accidents in the home “very frequently – increased incontinence due to his medical condition.” Bruce needs to be on anti-seizure meds or he will suffer seizures. Bruce is currently on Levetiracetam ER 500mg, and it has been recommended by the vet that Bruce see a neurologist due to his increased seizures as he gets older.
Bruce was fed Science Diet brand dry large breed puppy food at designated mealtimes (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and his favorite treats are “everything.”
Bruce is reportedly good with kids of all ages, dogs of all sizes, cats, small animals, strangers, grooming/baths, going to the vet, and car rides. He is described as crate-trained, well-behaved, destructive, friendly, and medium energy. When left alone, Bruce is crated and does well, but may have a potty accident in his crate.
Bruce knows “sit,” “down,” and “say please,” which means bark for a treat. Bruce’s best qualities are that “he’s an absolute sweetheart, so friendly, loves doggy day camp, loves being outside.” His most-challenging qualities are “lost potty training due to medical condition, destructive when unsupervised.” Bruce has never injured a person or another animal.
Additional comments: “I am heartbroken to have to rehome Bruce as I love him so much, I just cannot financially care for his medical needs anymore.”
