My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

JacksonReese is the worlds perfect dog! This handsome happy boy is a young senior between 8 and 12 years of age. He is a slim 14 pounds and is the most loving of boys! JacksonReese doesn’t bark AT ALL and he loves to snuggle.

Jackson loves to play with soft toys but he doesn’t destroy the. If there happens to be a hole in the toy he will, however, pull out the stuffing. He loves to have toys thrown for him and he will happily bring them back! He loves to play with the toy and interact with his foster family in Alabama.

JacksonReese answers best to Reese. Our rescue named him Jackson when he came from the shelter. When his foster family were at their family’s house another dog was there; his name is Reese (like the southern pronunciation ree-see i.e. reesee p-cees). Well, we called Reese (the chihuahua) and Jackson jumped up and was so excited, like “here I am, here I am!! Whats up!! I’m here!” So, half the time we call him Jackson, and the other half Reese.

This handsome boy is what we commonly call ‘dachshund house trained’. He will go outside but needs to be reminded and kept on a regular schedule. Like all dogs, he will need to be confident in his environment to have good potty habits. All rescue dogs go thru a period of adjustment so understanding and patience is important.

Reese gets along well with every person he meets. He has not been around small children but seems to be great with children 10 years and older. Reese gets along well with other dogs in his foster home and in other homes he has visited. Although he does not have a cat in his foster home he is curious when he meets a dog outside and doesn’t act aggressively towards them.

Reese is leash trained but he will pull during walks so he requires a secure harness and lead. This handsome boy likes to sleep in his crate or on the couch at night. His foster family has tried to have him sleep in the big bed, but he doesn’t like to stay there.

Reese has had extensive medical treatment since he came into our rescue. He has had extensive dental care with multiple teeth removed and fistulas (holes) repaired. Because of his multiple dental procedures, Reese needs only soft food and soft toys. Our sweet boy does have a fatty mass on his side that we had tested and it is non cancerous. We would have had it removed during one of his dentals, but we did not want to keep him under anesthesia any longer. When he initially came into our rescue his back lets seemed a bit weak, but they have strengthened with a health diet and exercise.

This wonderful loving boy wants constant attention and would like a home where his people are home most of the time. He would love a home where his people would let him cuddle with them on the couch and be with them all the time. Reese loves to go for a car ride and will happily travel with his forever family.

Are you going to be the lucky one to welcome Reese home? He is waiting to share his special snuggles with you!
