My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

He’s out of this world!

Hi, pals! My name is Pluto, and I’m a 3-year-old neutered Shepherd mix, weighing in at 47 pounds.  I’ve come all the way from Mexico, and I’m as excited as can be to find my furever family!

I’m crate-trained and house-trained, with no signs of any separation anxiety.  My leash training is almost at 100%, and I’m confident that I’ll have mastered it in no time at all.

As far as my health goes, I’ve had quite the rollercoaster ride! As you can see, I’m now a tripod, but that hasn’t held me down one bit.  I’m also in remission from red blood cell aplasia.  This condition will require ongoing monitoring (with re-checks every 6-8 weeks until completely off immunomodulatory therapy like Pred and Cyclosporine).  Because this disease can recur, I require regular monitoring and vet visits every three months during the first year, and approximately 2-3 times yearly thereafter. Currently I am only on Denamarin Advanced for Large Dogs to support my liver, monthly cost is ~$72, depending on market value and where purchased.

But, enough about that! The greatest thing about me is the enthusiasm and zest I have for life.  I’m all love, and I’m grateful to have had this second chance.  Because of that, I give 110% to everything I do!  I’m a high-energy boy, and I live for sturdy chew toys, playing fetch, and going on car rides.  I’m very smart and am a quick learner (mostly due to being food motivated).  I also love playing with and being around other doggie friends.

My ideal home would be an active one, with numerous people or furry siblings around to play with.  Other than that, just give me lots of love, and I will be the goodest boy that I can be!

So, what do you say – should we take on this galaxy together?  If so, my adoption fee is $250 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip.  If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/.  You can also check me out in the Stories at @sdstu on Instagram.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
