My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Martha’s Backstory:
Martha was a stray at animal control. No family ever came to claim her, even after days of waiting. Everyone who meets her agrees that she seems to be yet another “pandemic puppy,” or a dog who was purchased during the first years of the Covid pandemic when everyone was home. Some humans looked to dogs to be their companions while they were working and schooling from home. Now that people are going back to work and school in person, far too many dogs are being left on side streets and in fields, ending up as strays in animal control. Martha has been wronged, and we are giving her a second chance to make things right for her!

Breed and Hair Notes:
Martha has hair that grows and not fur. She is a stunning Miniature Schnauzer. Some say mostly while others say there might be Shih Tzu, Lhasa, and even Poodle in the mix. Whatever she is, she’s FUN! As you can see, her former people left her a matted mess, and she was just completely shaved down by a professional groomer (see 4th photo to see her recent haircut!) PLEASE NOTE: her hair will grow, and she will need professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. Only apply if you understand the additional maintenance and cost that these dear hair-not-fur souls need and are willing to commit to life for such care.

Get to Know Martha:
Martha is practically a puppy at just 1-2 years of age, and she currently weighs approximately 11.5 pounds. She is learning how to go potty on pads indoors but goes outside, too. She is smart, and she can be trained depending upon where you’d like her to go potty.

Martha is FUN. She’s full of puppy energy, ready to explore the world, and is up for an adventure! She needs a family who is ready to take her for walks and preferably has a fenced-in yard so she can run and play to her heart’s content!

Ideal Home:
Martha has some good young dog energy, and she needs a family who will honor this and give her what she needs. If you are laid back and sit a lot, Martha is not your girl. She needs someone who is ready to take her for a daily walk and play with her.

If you expect to put Martha in a crate at all during the day or night, please do not apply. Martha will flourish in a home where she can hang out with her people during the day and sleep with them at night. People who work from home most of the time or retired people are an ideal match.

Martha can successfully be in a home where she is the only dog, provided she continues to get socialization by going on daily walks and meeting/being around other dogs. She currently lives in a foster home with multiple dogs and cats, so she can also be in a home with other gentle animals. She should NOT be in a home with young children. Only respectful teenagers and adults should be in her family.

Are you ready to be blown away by a delightful and fun Martha? If so, we forward to receiving your adoption application!
