My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sir Edward’s Backstory:
It is so hard to believe, but Sir Edward was a stray at animal control. We found him completely covered in mats, dirty, and severely underweight. We knew he needed our help as it was clear no one was going to step forward. The moment we all met him, we all fell in love with this dear sweet boy.

Breed and Hair Notes:
Sir Edward has hair that grows and not fur. He is a Shih Tzu with darling grey and white markings. He is agreeable to hair trims and is patient with grooming. He just had a proper haircut, and the groomer said he was a proper gent for the entire bath and trim! PLEASE NOTE: his hair will grow indefinitely, and he will need professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. Only apply if you understand the additional maintenance and cost that these dear hair-not-fur souls need and are willing to commit to life for such care.

Get to Know Sir Edward:

Sir Edward is approximately 3-5 years of age, and he’s approximately 12-13 pounds. He is currently in one of our foster homes (just outside of Manhattan) until he finds a family who is ready to commit for life to this darling boy. Here is what they have to say about dear Sir Edward:

“Sir Edward is a very sweet, gentle boy with some charming personality traits. He loves to sleep near his people, and will gently work his way directly into your lap. He gets beyond excited for walks and is well potty trained. He will occasionally come out of his shell and play fetch for a few minutes, but is otherwise content to be cuddling. He has great manners and is not food aggressive.”

Sir Edward is scheduled for neuter surgery on August 2nd. He is ready to be adopted beforehand with the understanding that his surgery is around the corner.

Because he was a stray for God only knows how long, he arrived to us with an eye infection. It’s currently being treated successfully. Sir Edward also has dry eye, which is common in Shih Tzu. He will need eyedrops morning and night. He is agreeable to the eyedrops and likes the attention.

Sir Edward is currently living with another dog. He’s very friendly toward him. At this point in time, he spends a lot of time on his own. He is still recuperating and catching his breath after all of the trauma he has recently endured.

His foster family is also teaching him to walk on a leash, something that he’s never done. Because everything is so new to him, he’s currently timid around other dogs he meets outside and will bark at them if he feels intimidated. Sir Edward is a smart boy and will be receptive to your lead. He simply needs patience and training to be able to walk outside successfully.

Sir Edward’s focus right now is people. He is friendly toward everyone he meets, no matter their size, age, or gender. All he wants is to be near them and love them.

Ideal Home:

If you expect to put Sir Edward in a crate at all during the day or night, please do not apply. Sir Edward will flourish in a home where he can hang out with his people during the day and sleep near them at night. He has been neglected for most of his life, and he yearns to be near his people. He should not be left at home for long periods of time. People who work from home most of the time or retired people are ideal for Sir Edward.

Sir Edward can successfully be in a home where he is the only dog. He could be in a home with children, provided they are calm, gentle, and respectful. A quieter and low-key household is ideal.

Are you ready to share your life with gentle and sweet Sir Edward? If so, we look forward to receiving your adoption application!
