My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sansa and Bear are a bonded pair and will be adopted together. Adoption fee is $175. They were surrendered to the shelter because their original owner passed away. Sansa is a 5 year old female Shih Tzu mix. Her date of birth is 7/1/2018. She has a long coat of white/cream coloring. Bear is 1 1/2 years old and is Terrier/Pomeranian mix. He was born around January of 2022 and sports a medium length brown and black coat. They are indoor pets who need a home. They may need instruction in house training, especially in a new home environment. Come meet these sweet little dogs at Amarillo SPCA, 11901 S. Coulter. Our shelter is open Tues.-Sat. from 12 to 5 p.m. Ph: 806-622-0555.

More about this shelter

The Amarillo SPCA is a 501(c)3 non profit organization. We operate solely on donations and fundraisers.

Presently, we operate a shelter for dogs and cats. We have approximately 100 animals housed at the shelter and in foster care.

One of our main concerns is pet over population. It is important that the public be educated about the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. It is also our goal to make sure every animal that is adopted from the SPCA is sterilized before going to a new home.

We receive calls daily from people who request help with their animals--either needing to give them up or asking for help with food and medical needs. We help whenever we can, but financially we're not able to help often.

We have grown to the extent that volunteers alone cannot provide necessary hours for operating the kennels. We have a shelter manager and other part time employees for the care of the animals and maintenance of our facility.

Costs for our facility include payroll for these employees, good quality food for the animals, heat and air conditioning, medical treatment for sickness or injury. Additional costs for the animals always include vaccinations, deworming, microchipping and sterilization before leaving the shelter to go to new homes. Our vet bills are high and frequently expenses are far more than the adoption fee of $100. Therefore donations are hugely appreciated! We look forward to your contribution and particularly to your interest in one of our dogs or cats as a permanent companion.

Thanks so much, Amarillo SPCA
