My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Canelo, a very special guy with a heart as big as they come. In fact, his heart was so inviting that it attracted some unwelcome guests - heartworms! Canelo received treatment and is now heartworm-free, ready to embark on a new chapter of his life. He was brought to HSHC as a stray, but he's eager to leave his past behind and find a loving family to share his dreams with.

Canelo, a handsome Chow Chow Mix, believes he falls into the working breed category. This makes sense because he loves learning new tricks and deriving joy from making his humans happy. If you happen to have other dogs at home, Canelo would love the opportunity to make their acquaintance - he's known for making a fantastic first impression. During his showings, he also met some children and absolutely adored them! The only thing Canelo requests for his new home is a cat-free zone. If you're in search of a hardworking, snuggly companion, Canelo is the man for you!

More about this shelter

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.

This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
