My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Canelo is an extremely sweet lab mix approximately 4-5 years old. He grabbed the hearts of multiple volunteers and staff at a shelter which allowed him time there that many dogs do not get. When a wonderful couple stepped in to foster Canelo having learned that he was going to be euthanized the next day, everyone was beyond thrilled and relieved.

Canelo is quite a loving guy. He is a great dog. He loves riding in the truck to help Foster Dad drive Foster Mom to work. In fact, he loves car rides in general! When people see Canelo peeking through the back window they often pull out their phones to snap a picture.

Singing Canelo's praises: He is great with the cat in the family. He likes to know where his people are in the house. We think he is so in love with being part of a family! He doesn't know all his commands yet (such as sit and stay) but he tries his best and makes an effort each time.

He is very eager to please and extremely loyal once he becomes comfortable. He will surely be a wonderful companion for life.

He walks well and can do a nice, slow jog, too. He doesn't pull and stays close. He doesn't react to people with items such as canes or with other dogs walking by for the most part.

He is crate trained, too. Contact us today so we can continue going on and on about this wonderful dog. Better yet, plan to come meet him and see for yourself!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

When you visit FLA at an adoption event, you will see many dogs and cats in need of adoption. We work with all breeds and all ages. Our goal is to match person to pet in a way that compliments temperaments and lifestyles. Here is a brief breakdown of what to expect from our adoption process:
a. Talk with an FLA representative about a dog or cat.
b. Fill out a simple, one-page application form.
c. Agree to a home check.
d. Fill out adoption paperwork, print an ID tag and
take your new family member home!

Once you have adopted from FLA, we remain a support system for you. We are here to answer any questions you may have as you bring your new dog or cat into your home.

Go meet their pets

Let us know if you are interested in one of our cats or dogs and we will set up a private meet and greet.

More about this rescue

We began as a mobile adoption unit for a local humane society and then realized we could help even more dogs and cats in need if we became a 501 (c)(3). FLA Rescue was formed. Over the years, we have met incredible individuals and families who have opened their hearts and homes to hundreds of dogs and cats in need of love and a fresh start. We love it when we get updates - from pictures to visits in-person - from past adopters and adoptees. We believe that people who adopt dogs and cats in need are truly special individuals. We feel lucky to volunteer our time for animals and help people like you find a dog or cat who will bring joy to your life.
