Meet Bentley, who is a very cuddly Shih Tzu. He is 7 years old and weighs 15 pounds and is a lovely apricot and white color. He is house trained, but has a small bladder, which means that sometimes he has a little leakage issue. Taking him out frequently to urinate helps tremendously, but he also wears a belly band indoors, just in case. He sleeps in his own bed on the floor and through the night. He is a quiet, fun loving dog and definitely gets along with other dogs, so much so that we are looking for a home that has at least one small, confident well trained dog who will be his companion. He needs that companionship for several reasons. He has less anxiety, plays well so he sleeps better, and copies the other dog(s) when he is out in the yard, making everything so much easier. Bentley is a former puppy mill dog that was in a home for 2 years, but there were some behavioral issues. Being with another dog in the home has greatly reduced his negative behavior, and he has been settling down nicely in his foster home. He still doesn’t maneuver stairs well, but manages the few steps at the front of the house just fine. He would be do best with at least one other dog, frequent walks and someone who can keep him on a schedule. When outdoors, he likes to follow his human and his fellow dog companion. He also rides beautifully in the car and walks well on a leash.
Requirements for applicants interested in Bentley include:
• A more senior adopter(s) with only visiting children every once in a while.
• A home with another small, confident, gentle dog who will be a companion to Bentley.
• If the home has stairs, the adopter must be able to physically lift and carry Bentley up and down the stairs until he becomes more confident to use stairs consistently.
• Willing to take Bentley outdoors frequently and regularly due to his small bladder issue. He may need to use a belly band when indoors.
• A home within 30 miles of Edina, MN.
• Must commit to attending the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September.
Bentley is neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $270.00 plus $20.32 sales tax for a total of $290.32.
