My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I'm Cashew
The world can seem a bit overwhelming to me, but with a gentle touch and a bit of patience, I promise to be your most loyal friend. I walk well on a leash, always careful not to pull or rush. I'm a bit shy, but once I get to know you, I'm all heart. I've got a gentle soul, preferring quiet moments to loud ones. I find joy in the simplest of things - a soft pat, a kind word, and oh, how I love treats! They're my favorite. I'm looking for a companion who understands that sometimes, the world is a scary place, but together, we can face it. Adopting me won't just change my life, it will make yours a little brighter too. I'm just waiting for my forever home, could it be with you?

More about this shelter

The Allegany County Animal Shelter serves as the municipal shelter for Allegany County and is located at 716 Furnace Street in Cumberland. For many years, the shelter served as the final destination for nearly 85% of the animals that entered it. In late 2010, a group of passionate citizens led the charge to change the nature of the shelter with a goal of doing as much as possible for every animal, every day. It was the first step on the journey to becoming A Shelter of Hope.
