My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, my name is Mickey, I am a 2-year-old, male, AKC registered, blue Weimaraner. I have recently been neutered, microchipped, tested negative for heartworm, and currently on heartworm, flea and tick preventative. I am up to date on my vaccines, too.

I am loving my new Hoomans because they let me live inside their house with them. The only downside to this is there seems to be more rules that I have to follow than when I was an outside dog. I am working hard to try to understand those rules, and learn good manners. They make it fun, and I get lots of treats when I get it right. I still don’t understand what they are asking me sometimes, but I am really smart (or at least that is what they tell me). They are patient with me and encourage me to be the best boy. Apparently marking in the house is not considered good manners. This happened before I was neutered, so hopefully you’ll never experience that, but you may at first while I get used to my new home.

We’ve been working on the following: place, sit, stay, off, down, and loose leash walking. Man, that last one is hard, because… squirrel… I love going for walks around my new neighborhood, or in the local parks with my hooman, but some of the big vehicles scare me a lot. I didn’t have to deal with them living in the country. My foster Dad likes to hold me close when they go past, and this makes me realize I am safe. I am getting more confident with them every passing day.

I really love to play fetch in the yard, although sometimes I just want to chew the ball, rather than drop it. I wish their yard was larger so they could throw it further. I love to cuddle my hoomans on the sofa, but I don’t understand why my hoomans think that 70lbs is too heavy for a lap dog. I am gentle with my toys, and have not shown any destructive tendencies, but I like a soft toy that I can chew on in case I feel the need.

My original owners told my foster parents that my best friend was a cat. I have not been able to interact with my foster cats, because I get too excited when I meet them and scare them off. I like other dogs, and will submit if they get aggressive. I can be over-friendly when meeting new dogs, which can make them nervous. Hopefully, my neutering will help calm that down.

I tend to be nervous around new people, but I’m working on that. I will form a bond with my primary carer really quickly. I need an active home with people that are willing to continue helping me with my manners and training.

I am looking forward to making somebody's life complete. I am a fun loving, hooman loving, cuddle bug. Lots of people tell my foster parents I am a handsome boy. If you are interested in being my forever home, please complete an application at louisvilleweimrescue.com and one of the LWR volunteers will be in contact. I can’t wait to meet you.
