My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Hatch Date: 1993

Rita is a 30-year old Senegal, believed to be female.

Rita has had 2 owners.  She has been with her current owner for 4 years. She needs to be rehomed because she thinks her current owner is her mate and wants t o be with he r and on her shoulder all of the time. If she is not with her human companion, she screams and will bite others.

Her original owner said that Rita doesn't like men and since she does bite when she doesn't get her way, she would do best in a home with no children. She currently lives in a home with a dog and has no fear of the dog.

Rita enjoys a lot of different healthy foods such as b ananas, strawberries, mandarin oranges, apples, and eggs.  She loves oatmeal, rice, potatoes, tuna fish, chicken, all kinds of nuts, granola, and some junk food such as chips with no salt, popcorn, and peanut butter chips. She is still on a seed diet and hasn't tried a pellet she likes so far.

She spends 90% of her day on her owner's shoulder shredding the towel that is thrown over her shoulder. She loves to snuggle on her neck. Rita loves her head, cheeks, and beak rubbed. She loves music and she loves to be sung to.

Her current owner provides Rita with toys, but she hasn't shown any interest in them. She has had her cage and swing her entire life and loves them.  Rita is a pretty good flyer.

Rita's owner made up a song for Rita which she loves-
Her name is Rita and she's my bird. S he's got feathers in her hair and  Rita flies everywhere. She bebops her head. She also gets very excited when her mom says I love you, I love you, I love I love I love you.

Rita is participating in our Help With Rehoming program and is living in Egg Harbor City, NJ   and will only be adopted to a forever home within driving distance. We will not ship our birds.

For the Love of Birds is a group of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA.  We do not have a central location.

Rita is living in a private home; we only allow approved applicants to make visits.  If interested in adopting Rita, please visit our website ftlob.rescuegroups.org  to read our adoption policies & procedures and to complete an adoption application.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption procedure begins with completing an adoption application and returning it to us. We will check your references and then call you for a telephone interview. While we check your references, we will ask that you review an educational power point presentation. After your application is approved, it is our policy that you visit with the bird(s) three times to have multiple interactions with them and give you time to consider the adoption and get ready for your new family member. There is an adoption fee for each bird.
