Meet Martha!
Martha was found living on the streets of Houston in deplorable condition. Her fur was so matted that even her eyes were matted shut. She was shaved down and feels so much better! Unfortunately, she is blind but gets around really well after she learns her way around. Martha does have hearing loss but she appears to be able to hear a little bit. Martha loves naps and is very quiet. She also likes toodling around the yard and snacks! She is very curious in nature and loves to walk around the house sniffing and discovering new things! Martha lives in a foster home with several other dogs and does really well. She absolutely adores human contact and will happily let you carry her around for as long as you want! She's completely house broken and when she gets put outside in the grass, she can find her way back in. She loves to lay next to you and be petted. Her favorite sleeping spot is in the same bed your in. She doesn't need to sleep up against you, or push you off the bed, but she does ocassionally nudge your pillow or arm to make sure you're still there.
So how does she let you know what she needs? She does a little hoppy bark. You do kind of have to guess what she needs, go outside, I'm hungry, or sometimes is just saying, "Hey, is there anyone with me?" A gentle stroke on the head and she calms right down.
She is very independent. She doesn't have to be by your side constantly, but she does like to know her human is with her. She loves hanging out in the backyard and sunbathing. Other Considerations: Martha was spayed and had a full dental in February 2023. She also had two masses removed that were benign. Her fur is currently stained due to her excessive licking prior to coming in to our care. Poor thing, her skin was so inflamed and she could do nothing but lick which just made it worse. Since she has been with Joyrides she has stopped licking and we are hopeful that over time her fur will return to the beautiful white and cream color it was meant to be!
Martha is being fostered in Houston, TX. She is available out of state and would come to her new home via professional transport.
