My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Akita mix | 2 years approx | Female | 35 lbs
*We cannot guarantee breed nor age.

Temperament: Loving, adventurous, independent.
Activity level: Medium energy.
Vetting: Core vaccines (DH2PP, Rabies, Bordetella) spayed, microchipped, dewormed, fecal (negative), 4DX blood for tick-borne diseases and heartworm disease (negative), on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. Came to us with a UTI but has been treated. Bonita eats a urinary care prescription vet food.
Housebroken: Yes!
Good with Dogs: Yes!
Good with Cats: Untested in the home, seems slightly scared of them on the street.
Good with Children: Not tested.
Prey drive: None observed.
Response to the outdoors: Loves it but is sensitive to loud sounds and strangers. Busy streets create anxiety for her and she will avoid walking close to people.
Crate-Trained: Yes!
Resource guarding: None observed.
Are they vocal: Will bark when new people enter the house. Is a bit more vocal and nervous around men.
Leash Etiquette: Working on it. Is very anxious on walks so can tend to veer off or start pulling.
Transportation: Anxious about getting in car (panting, drooling) but is usually fine after; not car sick. Very nervous on public transportation, but is working on it.
*Bonita’s bio may change as we get to know her better.
*Comes with 6 weeks of pet insurance totalling $500 and 2 free online group training classes.
*Please be sure to check your spam/junk folder for a response from our team.
*As we are an entirely volunteer-run organization, we are only able to reach out to applicants that will be moving forward.

Meet Bonita! Her foster family describes her as very loving and cuddly, with a medium energy temperament. She has a timid personality and is working through some anxiety displayed around strangers and in unknown places. We recommend further professional training to help with this. That being said, Bonita loves to be around her humans and would do well with a person/family that spends a lot of down time at home or can patiently introduce her to new places. Once she's comfortable and warms up to you, she's very affectionate and loves to stick her nose right up to you.

Bonita's foster fam says she's always right at their feet and wanting to be included or she can be found hiding underneath random furniture (LOL!) In environments she's comfortable in, she loves to be outdoors and run around super fast. Ideally, her fur-ever family will have a big backyard for her to do this, as well as live in a quieter and calmer neighbourhood that’s not as busy (i.e. not right downtown). Bonita also displays vet anxiety so using a “fear free” vet clinic is highly recommended.

Bonita's fosters say one of the cutest things she does, amongst many others, is that when she's excited, she wags her tail so much that her whole body starts swaying - what a thing to come home to everyday!
