HAPPY is a happy guy in spite of all that’s happened to him. He was found wandering around the neighborhood during one of the hottest summer days. He has been wandering for hours, and groups of people thought that he just belongs to the next group. He was scooped up by a good Samaritan, and brought to us. He had an odd haircut – like a kid was let loose with scissors – so we assumed somebody would be missing him, but nobody came looking. A few weeks in our care and he had his first cluster of seizures. The vet prescribed monitoring at first, but he had a couple more so he is now on phenobarbital, and they are well-controlled. The vet estimates Happy to be at least 10 years old. He has a little arthritis and can sometimes be crabby when he’s woken up from a nap. He gets along well with cats and other dogs, except for the Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix in his foster home. After his rabies vaccine, Happy came down with pneumonia, and we almost lost him. Because of this, we decided to do no further vaccines, and not to put him under anesthesia for a neuter – we would hate to inadvertently cut his life short. He does have “old dog lungs” that crackle and pop under the stethoscope and he may need meds from time to time or as he ages to help him breathe easily. Happy is available for adoption to a family. That is no stranger to Senior Dog care. Excellent vet references are a must. He would do best in a home without small children, but should be fine with older, dog-savvy kids. Please fill out an application at www.companimals.org if you’re interested in being Happy’s forever family. Adoption $175.
