My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This larger then life black panther is hoping to finally land himself a loving home. Mr. Black was brought in as feral cat and slotted the life to be a barn cat.A twist in fate got him a different destination. He had a large wound to one of his legs that was noticed during his neuter and vetting. Mr. Black no longer qualified as a barn cat and now he needed a chance with a rescue to spare his life. Mr. Black has been waiting since January 2022 for a forever since he's fate was changed. Mr. Black is a lover but a little shy and once he realizes you mean no harm will be your best friend. Embodying a name that is especially suited to its owner, Mr Black is, well, black, and all that that implies. He is as dark as a night shot through with stars; you can see tiny streaks of white in his fur like miniature shooting stars. His glossy coat replicates the luster of polished obsidian. Stroking him summons images of a breeze gently gliding over a tranquil stream. Mr Black may also have a black heart, but he is not evil. A result of human neglect, he lived the challenging life of a stray until an injury brought him to Beauties. His behavior on intake led people to place him in the Working Cat program. But healing his body seemed to heal his mood. It was eventually decided that he could be adopted. His journey through being a foster cat has not been an easy one. Separated from the other household pets for a couple weeks, he was even skittish around me. He found new hiding places in my room that I never knew existed. After he was allowed into the rest of the house he would slink around hissing and swatting at the other cats. Mr Black is now able to stroll around calmly but will still hiss and swipe at the other cats, especially when treats are involved. Compare this to him falling asleep on your lap as you murmur and pet him. This is the puzzle that is Mr Black. Obviously ideal as the only pet in a home, but who knows? Maybe someone with unlimited time could transform him into the cherished center of a cuddling clowder. Let's help this disqualified barn cat get the couch he truly deserves.

Additional adoption info

For us, the adoption process begins the day we take a dog or cat into our rescue. It’s a huge responsibility, taking in a lost soul and promising them a happy life, but we are pretty proud of the forever families we’ve helped create because our adoption process is so thorough.

The first step in adopting is to fill out the adoption application. This helps our volunteers understand what kind of new friend you are looking for, and allows us to identify any issues that would prevent us being able to place certain animals in certain homes. For example, breed restrictions in your town or apartment complex, etc…

The Beauties will conduct a vet check to make sure the pets you currently have are all up-to-date on vaccinations and spayed or neutered. We will also contact you to set up a home visit, where we can make sure that the home you have meets the needs of the animal you are interested in. Example: fence height for dogs who are jumpers, stairs for dogs who have mobility challenges, etc… We try to troubleshoot any potential problem areas and offer friendly advise so that our ultimate goal, a forever happy match, can be achieved.

After the application process is complete, the real fun begins! It’s time for Meet-N-Greets! We have a professional dog trainer on our board of directors, and we can schedule her assistance in helping you with dog-to-dog introductions while you are searching for your new family member. It’s amazing how often the existing family pet has a little something to say about who they want to spend time with and having a pro help out makes the potential for a successful intro go through the woof! We mean, roof!

Once you have decided on the dog or cat of your dreams, all that is left to do is sign the adoption contract and pay the fee, which includes all vaccinations, microchip and spay/neuter.

More about this rescue

Beauties and Beasts is a state-licensed 501(c)(3) death row rescue located in Wichita, Kansas. Since our founding in October 2014, we have been able to save the lives thousands of death row animals, we have also been able to network out thousands more animals to other rescues. We are a completely 100% volunteer run rescue, we also rely on 100% donations from our followers and supporters to carry out our mission to save animals in our community.

Our purpose is to rescue death row animals from the shelter and in our community and place them in foster homes where they can receive the care and training needed to become family pets. Our main mission is to change these animals’ worlds one rescue at a time. Another large part of our mission is to be a voice for animals in need throughout our community and we are proud to say we have been able to make an impact on the streets of our city as well.

We do not discriminate against breed, age, medical needs, or behavior. We love ALL animals and breeds the same.
