My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi. I am Birdie. Some folks say I'm shy. I think I'm expected to act like other Labs, that's part of my genes. But, right now I don’t. Don’t get me wrong, I would like to be like my sister Bobbie, you know, bouncy, perky, always up for life’s hustle and bustle. I'm more reserved.
So, I have been thinking, a little canine self-diagnosis if you will. I was born mid-October 2021; then taken to a shelter, and Jan 2022 we came to St. Francis. In our first 3 months, my sister and I were living in our third shelter. In February 2022 Bobbie was adopted. Another change and now I am by myself. As of this writing I am a year old and feel like I was never given a chance to be a puppy, to form an attachment with a loving human in a forever home.
Don’t think I am not appreciative of the people at St Francis CARE. I am glad to have a place that is safe. I am treated well and I really like playing with the other dogs, But, I think I would blossom if I lived in a trusting stable home where I was appreciated for me.
So maybe I am a little shy, a little reserved, but, I bet that would change if I was with my own hooman. Please visit: Https://www.stfrancis-care.org/adopt for adoption information including the adoption application

More about this shelter

We are a no kill shelter. On any given day you will find over 100 dogs/cats in our care. We also offer spay/neuter services to lower income families & individuals of Southern Illinois. With a veterinarian on staff full time, we take in sick & injured animals when we can and provide the medical care they need before finding them good loving homes. We also help our rescue community by providing lower cost Spay/Neuter services to local animal control facilities as we are able.
