My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Oreo, he is as sweet as his name implies! This handsome pup not only boasts a striking black-and-white coat that resembles an Oreo cookie but also comes with a personality as delightful as his appearance.

Oreo is no stranger to the company of other dogs, displaying an enthusiastic and friendly demeanor when meeting new canine friends. With his leash training skills, taking Oreo for a stroll is a breeze, and his excitement to interact with other dogs adds an extra layer of joy to his walks. Oreo would thrive in a home with other young, playful dogs and/or someone who enjoys an active lifestyle.

This energetic pup is ready for any adventure, and his boundless energy is balanced by his love for cuddling. Oreo is a master at matching your energy level, whether it`s a burst of playful zoomies or a quiet evening of relaxation. Despite his initial exuberance, Oreo knows how to wind down, as evidenced by his tendency to lay down almost immediately in a play yard, showcasing a balance of playful energy & calmness.

Oreo`s playful side truly shines in a controlled environment like a play yard or off-leash area, where he can exhibit his speed for running and curiosity for new smells. However, once away from the chaotic shelter environment, he transforms into a laid-back and mellow companion who enjoys chilling out and taking in the surroundings.

His sweet and affectionate nature makes him a wonderful companion for those who appreciate a dog with a unique blend of energy and tranquility. When he`s not playing, his favorite place to be is snuggled right up on your lap. His foster mom tells us he`s hands down one of the most cuddly, loving dogs she`s ever encountered!

With his striking appearance and lovable personality, Oreo is sure to capture the hearts of those lucky enough to welcome him into their homes. Come meet this playful pup today!

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

Go meet their pets

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00am to 7:00pm. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
