My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Nova is not just a name; but a testament to her resilience as the shining star of St. Francis! This 2-year-old female pit bull mix arrived at our shelter in August, a survivor of severe neglect. Despite her challenging past, Nova has emerged stronger, healthier, and ready to light up a new home with her playful energy.
If you're a fan of fetch, Nova is the perfect playmate. Watching her chase after a ball with pure delight is not only heartwarming but also a reminder of the transformative power of love and care.
This charming girl has mastered the art of taking treats with gentle precision. Nova's loving personality shines through in every interaction, making her not just a pet but a cherished family member waiting to be discovered.
Nova is potty-trained, though we always remind those who adopt dogs who have spent time in shelters or may have dealt with neglect, that they may need a refresher course as shelter life is very different as they adjust to a new home and schedule.
Nova has shown compatibility with dogs of similar size during her time at the shelter, however we always recommend a meet and greet as well as a home visit for potential adopters who already have other pets in the home. Each furry friend has their own unique personality, and we want to ensure a harmonious home for all.
As you consider welcoming Nova into your home, remember that you're not just adopting a dog; you're providing a second chance for a beautiful soul who has triumphed over adversity. Please visit: Https://www.stfrancis-care.org/adopt for adoption information including the adoption application

More about this shelter

We are a no kill shelter. On any given day you will find over 100 dogs/cats in our care. We also offer spay/neuter services to lower income families & individuals of Southern Illinois. With a veterinarian on staff full time, we take in sick & injured animals when we can and provide the medical care they need before finding them good loving homes. We also help our rescue community by providing lower cost Spay/Neuter services to local animal control facilities as we are able.
