My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sofie is searching for a forever home she can enjoy long naps in. “She’s truly so amazing, doesn’t bark, is the best eater, never begs, and just wants kisses and cuddles. She comes with me on all of my errands. She’s not fazed by the loudness of the city and loves long walks in Central Park” This gem is an 8-year-old, 63lb beauty. She originally came to us from the city shelter and since then immediately has made herself at home on every couch and bed she could, the snuggles and love once she feels at home are truly rewarding. At home, Sofie is a serene couch potato, she’ll paw at you and become vocal when it’s time to give her some extra affection and belly rubs — but don’t be fooled – when it’s time for an adventure or long walk, she’s ready to get active and run all your errands with you. She is pretty good on leash and loves going for long walks in the neighborhood. Sofie can be leash reactive to dogs so a handler (with no dogs or cat in the home) is best for this confident girl! She’s fully house-trained and crate-trained, although she does prefer to be out of the crate and getting all your cuddles!  If you’re seeking a loyal, sweet, and adaptable companion who can be your adventure buddy or your couch potato, consider welcoming senior Sofie into your family. Adoption application

Go meet their pets

The first step of the adoption process is to complete an adoption application in full at www.rescuecity.nyc. All of our dogs are in foster homes throughout the city. We do not have a physical location where we keep dogs.

More about this rescue

Rescue City is a no-kill, non-profit1 pet rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption organization. Our team of dedicated volunteers is based in Brooklyn, NY and serves the NYC metro and surrounding areas.

Our organization’s motto is: There’s a person for every dog, and there’s a dog for every person…it’s just a matter of time. This applies whether you are looking to adopt a pet, or would like to make a positive impact on the lives of animals. At Rescue City we believe it is our moral responsibility to defend the lives of abused, abandoned, and neglected animals.
We take on helpless stray and surrendered animals, as well as those at the top of the euthanasia list at local and international shelters. We place our rescues in nurturing foster homes while they rebuild their lives through physical and mental rehabilitation. Following a thorough – but hassle free – adoption process, our Rescues are placed in loving, responsible, and committed permanent homes. Every rescue is fully vetted and altered, micro-chipped, and vaccinated upon adoption. Our commitment to our rescues does not stop once the adoption paperwork is signed. We stress the importance of responsible pet ownership, and we educate our Fosters, Adopters, and community on what it means to be a good pet owner.
