My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Princess originally arrived at the SPCA in July 2022 after someone witnessed her being pushed out of a car at an apartment unit. Princess had some broken foot bones and her ankle was shattered. When they took her to the vet, the x-rays also showed several BBs or pellets in her body. In short, Princess had a very tough life at one point. Princess has had surgery to repair her leg and has healed. She was adopted by the original finder but life circumstances changed and she had to return her to the SPCA. Princess has lost a lot of weight and has a few skin issues which we are working on. She is what we call a pocket pitt and just as sweet as she can be. All this girl wants is to be loved and part of a family. Give her a chance and she will melt your heart with those soft brown eyes.

Additional adoption info

The adoption fee covers the spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccination, basic vaccinations, microchipping, and care. All basic vaccinations will be current at the time of adoption.
A potential adopter is required to fill out an adoption application which includes information regarding their home environment, current/prior pets, etc. We also require them to provide at least 2 references. A volunteer will review the application, contact the references, and provide information regarding the specific pet they are interested in adopting. If we receive a favorable response when we contact the references, the potential adopter is then required to complete the actual adoption contract. We encourage communication by email. Due to our limited staff, our office is only open part-time, but we will return all phone calls as soon as possible.

More about this shelter

The SPCA of Polk County is a NO-KILL animal shelter operated primarily by volunteers. It receives no federal, state or local government support, United Way funding nor any support from HSUS or ASPCA. It is a 501(C)3 non-profit organization that relies on compassionate friends to continue its life-saving work. Our volunteers donate their time and personal talents because they love the animals that come through our shelter. We offer a low cost spay/neuter program to assist families who want to have their personal pets spayed/neutered if they meet the program guidelines.
