Rigby ended up at a shelter after being attacked by several others dogs. Although his injuries were not severe, it seems it has made him a bit untrusting at first. Once he is comfy with you, he is a sweet playful happy boy!
Rigby's wishlist:
1. Secure yard/no apartments
2. Adult only home
3. A playful, well mannered dog companion under 30 lbs to play chase with
4. Herding breed experienced person
5. Daily walks, playtime and continued training are recommended
6. Possible adopters available for multiple meets
Rigby is a sweet, medium energy cattle dog mix. He is thought to be approximately 3 1/2 years old and is currently 23 lbs.
Rigby is playful and loves to play chase with other friendly dogs. He feels most comfortable with dogs who are similar in size to him or smaller. He does not enjoy rough play or overly rough dogs who like to wrestle or play fight.
He enjoys going for walks and walks politely on a leash. He likes a yard to explore and play in and is an alert barker so no apartments for him. He is crate trained and housebroken in his foster home.
Rigby seems to prefer women and can be somewhat intimidated by men. He does well with men who are gentle and understand the needs of a timid dog. He can be shy when meeting new people but has shown he will warm up with slow, gentle introductions and treats. Once he is bonded to a favorite person he is loyal, affectionate and sweet. He enjoys following his person around the house and yard. Children would overwhelm him so an adult only home is recommended.
Rigby would do well in a quiet home with a friendly, confident dog companion to pal around with, help show him the ropes and keep him company while his humans are away from home. He would be best suited for a person who has the time, patience and understanding to help him continue to grow more confident and trusting.
Rigby currently lives and gets along with dog savvy cats but he will challenge shy kitties and chase if they run. He will chase outdoor cats who enter the yard.
Rigby is a sweet, funny little guy who is waiting for his forever home.

Our Mission Statement...
Sacramento Independent Animal Rescuers is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Our purpose is to aid stray, abandoned, and neglected animals. In addition to animals rescued and adopted by our organization, SIAR is also dedicated to help other independent animal rescuers find their foster animals the loving homes they deserve. To date, thousands of dogs and cats have been rescued and placed into wonderful homes in the past few years. In order to provide these services, we work with the community shelters, rescue organizations, and individuals who have animals with special needs and place these animals in permanent homes after they reach a stage of wellness.
Our mission is to provide loving, permanent homes for animals that have been abused, abandoned, or lost, which otherwise would not be with us today. Many of our rescued animals, especially those that were rescued from the shelters initially had kennel cough, pneumonia, or giardia with the extreme cases having the parvo or distemper viruses. In addition, a high percentage of animals are malnourished and require special dietary demands. We rely on tax deductible cash donations as well as food and other pet supplies that will allow us to continue to save lives!
**** WE ARE IN GREAT NEED OF DONATIONS AS MANY OF THE ANIMALS WE RESCUE HAVE COSTLY MEDICAL PROBLEMS AND ARE CONSIDERED NON ADOPTABLE AT THE SHELTERS - WE HOPE TO GIVE THEM A SECOND CHANCE AT A LONG AND HAPPY LIFE****
All of our companion pets, have been neutered or spayed, given all current vaccinations, heartworm tested and microchipped. This also provides the community with healthier animals and aids in the reduction of the outspread of illness and future homeless offspring.
The adoption fee for animals being adopted by SIAR can range from $75-$100 (for kitties) and $150-$350 (for dogs) depending on the animal and associated costs. The adoption fee helps up recooperate the thousands of dollars spent yearly on rehabilitation and allows us to continue to rescue animals in need.
Please be sure to click on the animal you are interested in. The corresponding biography will let you know which rescuer you need to contact to learn more about that wonderful pet.
