Sleepy is learning all the “normal” sounds of having a home. He likes to be near humans but is still hand shy. He likes to be petted but will not ask for pets. He needs time to decompress & see that soft blankets & human companions will be a permanent part of his future.

This is what his foster family sent us:

“Sleepy is a very sweet but scared little boy. He desperately wants attention and to be loved. He loves pets, attention, & sleeping in the big bed. He loves running the big, fenced yard with the others. He gets along with and would do best with a fur sibling. He does well when left alone but prefers his humans to be at home. He does not like to be put in a kennel. He goes outside to go potty but does not always tell you he has to go out. He is not leash trained. He did have a groom!”

We hope to match Sleepy with a family that is familiar with the breed. Pekes do best with less hectic homes. We will be looking for a home with no small children. Being an adult Peke that has never been around children, that is a variable we want to take off the table for him. Sleepy would be most compatible with dogs of similar temperament & energy.

Sleepy is not leash trained and is a flight risk. If he is outside, he should be in a secured area & never left unsupervised. Please make sure your fencing doesn’t have any areas he can squeeze through.

He is doing good with potty training. Sleepy has had very few mistakes and does very well with a schedule. Please remember that changes, like a new environment, always result in a bit of a learning curve. His new family will need to be prepared to set him up for success & get a routine in place.

With some time and trust building, Sleepy will make a great companion in a quiet household.
