My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lucy
To say I am confused about my circumstances is an understatement. I can't remember how many owners I have had over my lifetime. I am 10-years 7-months-old and have lived with my last owner for four months. The existing animals in the home did not care for me, so I came to live at HSHC on April 17. I am a sweet-tempered lady who craves affection. I have a beautiful, long grey and white coat and a pretty face. But being so bewildered about my future, I often hide in my litterbox or Kasa. I did come out for pets when the interviewer lady showed up. I remembered her from my previous stay, and it was lovely having her pet me and scratch my chin. I rubbed my head against her hand because it felt so good to be touched. When I moved to my new home, I was not given time to acclimate. I need a long, slow introduction to other animals before I feel completely comfortable. I am eating a diet designed to help me avoid UTIs, so I hope never to have one again. If you've wished for a new companion as much as I have, you should choose me for the rest of my life. 5-8-24

More about this shelter

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.

This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
