My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LOOKING FOR A GREAT LEADER:  Approx. 7 years old / Approx. 12 lbs.

Hi there, I’m Ruff!  I came to Mostly Mutts from animal control, and I sure am happy to be in their care while I wait to find my new family to love!!  I’m a fun and spirited pup looking for a good leader to follow.  I’m in a foster home with a good leader now, so we’re learning lots of things about me.

• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  No dogs in my new home please, due to my guarding behavior.  I met dogs at Mostly Mutts and was fine until they wanted to play and then I lunged and showed teeth.  I may be fine to be around calm, mellow dogs, but still should not live with them.  / I am getting more acquainted with the cats in my foster home, and I did ok with the crated kittens I rode with in the car.  When I first met cats, I showed some prey drive to chase them if they ran, though I am showing improvement. If you have a dog-savvy cat at home, let’s meet.  / In my foster home, there’s an older teen who understands me and lets me come to him for attention, petting and some good scratches, though sometimes I still growl at him. I think older teens who understand my boundaries could be a fit for me, so let’s meet.  I’ve done some guarding of my bowls and some toys, so best no younger kids.

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I have a very sweet personality once I know you and I do best when people let me come to them.  Once I know you, I am a super fun guy.  On a recent daytrip, a volunteer said I was a “good boy” who travels well, enjoyed playing with a squeaky toy, walking in the neighborhood, and watching an episode of Haunted Ireland.  I need ample time on the floor to enjoy being a dog and encourage independence.  Like any dog, sitting in someone's lap all the time and sleeping in a person's bed may encourage people guarding. (My trainer or adoption counselor will be happy to talk to you about this). I seem to prefer women over men, so if there’s a man in my new home, I’d like him to be calm, confident, kind, and for him to want to win me over. / My energy level is 6 – 7 so I’ll like some regular activity please.

• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I’m a member of the Mostly Mutts University training program and have learned the ‘come’, ‘leave it’ and ‘place’ commands so far. I’m sure I’ll learn even more as I do follow my trainer’s leadership.  With my trainer, I’ve learned that I’m rewarded for calm behavior.  I need a family that will provide leadership and rules so that I don't feel the need to be the leader. A firm ‘no’ lets me know you’re in charge. / I do well in my crate, though I'm more comfortable if you let me come out of the crate on my own rather than reaching in. / My potty manners have been good on the shelter schedule and in my foster home. In my foster home, I let my foster know I needed to go outside by sitting at her feet and staring at her. When she said ‘outside’ I ran to the door in excitement, so she understood I needed to go out.  My weakness is the cold weather, I don’t like doing my business outdoors if it's too cold, so watch me closely that I go outside during frigid weather, so I don’t tinkle on a rug.

• LIKES/DISLIKES:  I love fetching squeaky balls and treats. I also like walks, although I still need some work in this area. Sitting on the bench and sunning myself a bit next to the nice volunteers is fun too. / I am cautious when new people approach - I am more comfortable when new people let me initiate the interaction.  I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training.

• MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered.

I’ll thrive with a family that will provide me with good training and leadership.  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

Mostly Mutts Animal Rescue & Adoption's Adoption Process

Our facility is currently open to the public Monday-Saturday, 11-3. We welcome you to come meet our adoptable Mutts & Kitties! Please keep in mind the following:

Many of our adoptable Mutts & Kitties are in foster homes, so please call 770-272-6888 to find out if the pet you are interested in is at our facility. With an approved application we can set up meet & greets and adoptions with a pet in foster care.
We are not yet up to full ‘staffing’ following the pandemic, so there may be times when we cannot do meet & greets or process an application on the spot.
The best first step is to submit an application via www.mostlymutts.org.
Our adoption counselors are happy to help make a great match for you and your family!

Adoption Info:
Please submit an application through our website at www.mostlymutts.org if you are interested in one of our adoptable pets. We are receiving a large volume of applications and processing may take a little bit longer than normal. We are grateful for your interest, and an adoption counselor will be in touch as quickly as possible. Please give us 48 hours to respond before sending a follow-up email.

Who We Are:

Mostly Mutts is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization, staffed almost entirely by volunteers!

Our Mission is to help the Unwanted, Abandoned, Abused and Sick animals in our local counties. We fulfill this mission by working closely with County Animal Control Facilities, saving those who are in imminent danger of euthanasia, or those with needs which require specialized vet care that many other groups will not consider: major orthopedic issues, heartworm positive treatment, skin conditions, neglect and abuse
