Six months ago, he was held as live evidence for a local criminal case involving illegal breeding and horrific acts of animal abuse. He was found chained to a kettlebell that he pulled around to get water and find shelter. He is missing part of his upper lip, an injury vets think was sustained in an awful, traumatic fashion.
Only 2 of the dozens of large dogs seized got another chance. Teefs was one of them.
When we got Teefs, he could not walk on a leash, and he had no idea how to "dog".
Truthfully, we didn't know how to help him. He wanted to be a good boy, but we had never encountered a dog with such a severe background of neglect and abuse. We got help from one of our trainers and he has significantly improved!
He now enjoys some human affection and he's learned to love sleeping in a crate we placed inside of his kennel. He hoards his toys in his little "dungeon" and he carries a tennis ball or "emotional support stuffy" everywhere with him.
He is happy chasing a herding ball around a yard for hours.
We don't know if he will ever be adopted. We truly hope so! It will take a very special adopter to meet him where he is at.
Until then, he is ours.
He has brought wonderful things to our rescue and we have learned so much about caring for other dogs by learning how to care for him. He will stay with us as long as he is happy and pain-free.
Eve has been his advocate and they've learned to walk on a leash, get tacos for lunch, and he even had a couch nap! He's a trainable guy even with his past.
Teefs is worth it. He has seen the absolute worst in humans and is still excited to see us.
If you want a doggo who needs that extra cuddle, he's your guy! Meet Sugar Teefs at the HQ for a pup cup car ride, a walkie, or claim his as your very own foster baby. <3
