My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You may be familiar with the phrase "Man's best friend", but have you heard "dog's best friend"? If not, let us introduce you to Robin, the embodiment of a dog's best friend!

You see, Robin is a pretty shy guy when he's around people. If you were to ask Robin to rate hosting a people party, Robin would give it a zero out of 10. Robin is an introverted homebody who enjoys a low-key social life; if you're going out of the house, he'd prefer to stay home with a dog pal. And even when you're home, Robin prefers to spend his time with other dogs over his human caregivers, though he's up for a belly rub every now and again, and he appreciates if you share your couch space with him! We think Robin's ideal home would include another dog so he can fulfil his role as a "dog's best friend".

That's not to say that Robin doesn't enjoy the finer things in life that people can provide. In fact, Robin quite enjoys afternoon naps on his person's bed and sleeping on a soft dog bed in their room at night. Once Robin feels comfortable with you, he will gently take treats from your hand and ask for belly rubs, on his terms of course. Robin enjoys playing with Kongs and chew toys. He has lived with cats, as well as dogs, and has gotten along with both. His foster mom reports that he is housetrained and knows sit. If you're going into the yard, he's all too happy to go outside too. Some of Robin's favorite outdoor activities include sunbathing, playing chase with his dog friends, and telling those pesky squirrels who's the boss!

If Robin sounds like the dog's best friend you've been looking for, please fill out our adoption survey here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/BHOU/Dog

Our people will get with his people and arrange a virtual meeting for you. Robin's social awkwardness aside, we promise you won't regret it.

To help Robin find the best home possible, his adoption fee has been waived!

Additional adoption info

At Best Friends, we pride ourselves on our open adoptions policy. Open adoptions means that anyone 18 years of age or older is able to adopt from us on a first come, first served basis. Interested adopters will submit an adoption survey form and the adoption team will arrange a virtual meeting with the pet so we can help with match making. During the meet & greet, the adopter asks questions about the pet, the foster showcases the amazing qualities of their foster pet, and the adoption team provides medical information, advises on the adoption process, and coordinates next steps. Virtual meet & greets are available seven days a week.

All of our adoptable pets are spayed/neutered, microchipped, have received age-appropriate vaccines, and dogs over 6 months have been tested for heartworm disease. Our adoption fees, which are listed below, go directly back to the lifesaving work being done across the nation by Best Friends Animal Society to help the next animal in need.

· $50 for dogs six months and older

· $100 for puppies under six months old

· $25 for adult cats six months old and older

· $50 for kittens under six months

More about this rescue

Best Friends in Houston works collaboratively with city shelters, local animal welfare organizations and passionate individuals to save the lives of pets in shelters in Houston and the surrounding areas.

To guide this work and help Houston become a no-kill city for cats and dogs, Best Friends launched the Coalition to Save Houston’s Pets in April of 2018 followed by a Community Cat Program, foster programs for dogs and cats, local adoption programs and an out of state transport program.

At this time, all of our animals are currently residing in foster homes. Our office is used for fostering & adoptions by appointment only. The adoptions process will start by submitting a meet-and-greet form.

If you have any questions about adopting, please email us at HoustonAdoption@bestfriends.org or call us at (832) 342-9411. The adoption team is available from 9am to 6pm seven days a week.
