My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Pumpkin and Spice!

Now... imagine this ... you are in your 80s and diagnosed with an incurable disease. You accept your fate, and slowly decline... knowing the inevitable awaits.

The only thing that brings you joy now is the love of your beloved cats. You pet them hours each day, smile as they wrestle and play with each other... and when you nap, they nap with you. One big pile of purrs and love.

You realize that they will outlive you as they are only 7 years old and in perfect health. The local shelters have about a 95% euthanasia rate for their cats. Cats in your community (and your entire State) are largely considered disposable.

As the dreaded day approaches, where you must be moved into a full care facility, you know you must make a hard decision for your beloved friends.

With tears in your eyes, choking back pain, you ask your caregiver to bring Pumpkin and Spice to your veterinarian to have them humanely euthanized. As much as it breaks your heart, you know it is ultimately the kinder thing to do for your companions. There is no other option. No relatives, no friends to take them in. The world is hard, cruel and brutal for cats without a home. And Pumpkin and Spice have only known one home, yours. Every day since bringing them home they have lived with love, smiles and comfort. The local impound is just not an option.

Your caregiver takes them into the veterinarian, explains the tragic situation... and he says, "Let me make a few calls. These cats are wonderful and I would rather not euthanize them."

He calls Cheryl... who he knows has sent a few cats up North, to a rescue up there. It's a dog rescue, so he thinks its kind of a long shot, but he tries anyway. Cheryl gets his call and immediately texts Summit Dog Rescue...."Can y'all take these beautiful, sweet, loving cats? Their guardian is entering hospice care, and can no longer care for them."

Luckily, Summit Dog Rescue had a foster home open for kitties - and Pumpkin and Spice packed their bags for Colorado. The relief for their human was immeasurable. She wrote handwritten notes about their care, her love for them, and their love for each other.

And then she went to her care facility... knowing that was her last stop on this planet --- but resting easily, knowing that her beloved cats were going to be safe, happy and loved.

Someday, depending on what you believe, she might just be reunited with them.. in a different realm. But for now, they are in a foster home that loves them and finds joy in their antics and snuggles.

Pumpkin and Spice greet their fosters at the door every evening and follow them around the house... looking for love, snuggles and some playtime with the wand toy.

For sure, their person is watching over them... ensuring their forever home is found.

Adoption fee for this adorable bonded pair: $100.
